The 1998 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 20th tournament of the Thomas Cup, and the 17th tournament of the Uber Cup, which are the major international team competitions in world badminton. Host city selection China was originally selected as the host, with Shanghai as the competition site. Queen Elizabeth Stadium
The Queen Elizabeth Stadium is an indoor sport facility on the Morrison Hill in Wan Chai, on the Hong Kong Island of Hong Kong. First opened in 1980, it has a 3,500-seat arena, gymnasia, squash and badminton courts, and a multi-purpose hall. It was built by the Urban Council, and is now managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government. It hosted the official 1983 Asian Basketball Championship. History Queen Elizabeth II made her first visit to Hong Kong, then a British colony, in May 1975. This Royal Visit became the namesake of the stadium. The construction was funded by various means including donations from local philanthropists such as Sir Tang Shiu-kin, and the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club. Ma Che Kong
Ma Che Kong (; also known as Edwin Ma Che Kong; born 25 May 1974) is a retired badminton player from Hong Kong. Kong won most of the finals he contested in, which includes his victories in Poland, New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Brazil. In 2000, Hong Kong hosted its first-ever National Badminton Championships and he won the title in men's doubles with partner Yau Kwun Yuen. He was one of the most dominating players of his country in the late '90s. He has represented Hong Kong in major events such as Thomas Cup, Asian Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games. He was also a team member in Asia Cup badminton 2001. After his sporting career, he started a career as a coach in badminton for disabled people. Jon Holst-Christensen (born 16 June 1968) is a retired male badminton player from Denmark. Career Summer Olympics Jon Holst-Christensen competed in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in men's doubles with Thomas Lund.
