Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Mesinee "May" Mangkalakiri ( th, เมษิณี มังคละคีรี; ; born April 21, 1983, in Los Alamitos, California) is an American badminton player of Thai descent. She won a bronze medal, along with her partner Raju Rai, in the mixed doubles at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She repeated her bronze medal performance with her new partner Bob Malaythong in the mixed doubles, and also, beat Canada's Fiona McKee and Charmaine Reid for the gold in the women's doubles at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mangkalakiri is also a member of Orange County Badminton Club in Anaheim, California, and is coached and trained by former Olympic doubles champion Tony Gunawan (2000), who is currently playing for the United States. Mike Beres
Mike Beres (born May 13, 1973) is a male badminton player from Canada, who won the bronze medal in the men's doubles competition at the 1999 Pan American Games. He was born in Brantford, Ontario. 2001 (and 2007) he won the Boston Badminton Open. Beres competed in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in mixed doubles with partner Jody Patrick. They lost to Fredrik Bergström and Johanna Persson of Sweden in the round of 32. He would later win gold medals in singles and doubles at the 2007 Pan American Games, as well as a silver in mixed Badminton with Valerie Loker. Beres has won 8 Canadian National Championships between 1998 and 2007, two of them in men's singles, four in men's doubles and two in mixed doubles. José Antonio Crespo Ortiz (born 24 June 1977 in Madrid) is a badminton player from Spain. Crespo started playing badminton when he was eight in Benalmádena under coached Antonio Lopez, and when he was nine, he won the local tournament in San Juan. In 1991, he competed in the national tournament in Gandia, and won the U-15 boys' doubles title with his partner Jose Luis Ortiz. He was the champion in the boys' doubles event at the U-19 Spanish Junior National Championships in 1994 and 1995. Career Andrew Dabeka is a former professional badminton player, who now works full-time as a coach at the RA Centre in Ottawa. His recent coaching career took him to Switzerland, where we worked as assistant national coach from 2009 to 2013, as well as the head coach of Team Argovia, a professional team in Aargau, Switzerland, from 2010 to 2013.
