The Badener Meile is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile) at Baden-Baden in May or June. History A different event called the Badener Meile was established at Baden-Baden in 1927. It was renamed the Oettingen-Rennen in 1970. The current Badener Meile was introduced in 1979. Grosse Europa-Meile
The Grosse Europa-Meile is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile) at Munich in September. History The event was originally staged at Cologne as the Grosser Kaufhof-Preis. It was established in 1951, and the early runnings varied between 1,800 and 2,200 metres. The race was shortened to a mile in 1972, and from this point it held Group 3 status. It was renamed the Elite-Preis in 1983, and promoted to Group 2 level in 1989. It reverted to its original title in 1991. Europcar started a three-year period of sponsorship in 1998, and the event became known as the Grosse Europcar-Meile. It was later titled the Grosse Europa-Meile. The Grosse Europa-Meile was transferred to Munich in 2011. It was relegated back to Group 3 level in 2013. Hamburger Meile
The Hamburger Meile was a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It was run at Hamburg-Horn over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and was scheduled to take place each year in June or July. The race was last run at Hamburg-Horn in 2011, being moved to Hanover in 2012. However a very similar event, the Group Two Meilen Trophy, was run at the same course only three weeks later, and this race and the Hamburger Stutenmeile (restricted to fillies and mares), has since been kept at the expense of the ''Hamburger Meile''. History The event was established in 1986, and it was initially called the Cognac Hennessy-Rennen. It was originally classed at Listed level and contested over 1,600 metres. It was extended to 1,800 metres in 1987, and reverted to 1,600 metres in 1989. The race was known as the Hamburg Dresden-Pokal in the early 1990s. Galerie Urs Meile, Beijing-Lucerne is a contemporary art gallery located in Lucerne (Switzerland) and Beijing (China). History and artistic programme The gallery was founded by Urs Meile (the son of an art collector) in 1992. Meilutė Julija Lukšienė Matjošaitytė (20 August 1913 – 16 October 2009) was a Lithuanian university professor, cultural historian, and activist. Educated at Vytautas Magnus University, Lukšienė became a professor of literature in 1944. In 1955, she defended her thesis on the works of Jonas Biliūnas to become the Candidate of Sciences. She headed the Lithuanian Literature Department of Vilnius University in 1951–1958. Due to tightening Soviet censorship after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, the department was attacked for not devoting enough attention to communist literature and Lukšienė was dismissed from the university in early 1959. She then worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Pedagogy (merged into the ) until retirement in 1997. She researched the history of education focusing on the 19th century.
