Badener Meile
The Badener Meile is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile) at Baden-Baden in May or June. History A different event called the Badener Meile was established at Baden-Baden in 1927. It was renamed the Oettingen-Rennen in 1970. The current Badener Meile was introduced in 1979. It was initially restricted to horses aged four or older. It was opened to three-year-olds in 1985. It was promoted to Group 2 class in 2015. Baden-Baden
Baden-Baden () is a spa town in the states of Germany, state of Baden-Württemberg, south-western Germany, at the north-western border of the Black Forest mountain range on the small river Oos (river), Oos, ten kilometres (six miles) east of the Rhine, the border with France, and forty kilometres (twenty-five miles) north-east of Strasbourg, France. Jonathan Pease
Jonathan Edward Pease (born 8 June 1952 in Northumberland, England) is a member of the prominent Pease family and a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. The son of Derrick Allix Pease and the Hon. Rosemary Portman, his grandfather was Sir Richard Arthur Pease, 2nd Baronet of the Pease Baronets, of Hammersknott. After studying at Eton College and Cambridge University, Jonathan Pease began learning the business of conditioning Thoroughbreds for racing in England under the tutelage of Toby Balding and Clive Brittain. He relocated to the United States where he worked for MacKenzie Miller and in Australia learned under trainer T. J. Smith. In 1976 he went to work for French trainer, François Mathet and in 1979 took up permanent residence in France where he obtained his trainer's licence and set up a public stable at the Chantilly Racecourse. Andrew Matthews Balding (born 29 December 1972) is a British racehorse trainer based at Park House Stables, Kingsclere, near Newbury, Berkshire. Balding attended Caldicott School, a boys' preparatory school, and Radley College, a public school. He became a licensed trainer in January 2003, when he succeeded his father Ian Balding. Freddy Head
Freddy Head (born 19 June 1947, in Neuilly, France) is a retired champion jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing and currently a horse trainer. Known also as "Freddie", his grandfather was a jockey as was his father Alec Head who also became a successful trainer and owner of Haras du Quesnay near Deauville. Alec Head's horses won The Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Jimmy Quinn (jockey)
James Quinn (born 20 May 1967) is an Irish professional horse racing flat jockey. Quinn was born in Rochestown, New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland. He moved to England as an apprentice jockey in 1985 and works as a freelance jockey based in Newmarket. In four seasons (1996, 2002, 2004 and 2009) Quinn clocked up over 1,000 rides. Andreas Schütz
Andreas Schütz (born 19 February 1968) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. From a prominent racing family, he is the fourth generation to train professionally. Andreas Schütz started out as an amateur jockey, winning four German championships from 1984–1987 and the European championship in 1987. In 1992 he began working as an assistant trainer for his father Bruno Schütz who had built one of the Germany's most successful public training stables. Due to health problems, his father retired and in 1998 Andreas took over the running of the stable. Highly successful, Andreas Schütz has won numerous German Group one races including the five wins in both the Deutsches Derby and the Preis der Diana. Billy Newnes
William Anthony Paul Newnes (born Liverpool, 6 December 1959) is an Epsom Oaks winning jockey, best known for his connection with the horse Time Charter, on which he won the Oaks, Sun Chariot Stakes and Champion Stakes in 1982. He was also Champion Apprentice the same season, with 57 winners. Not long afterwards, in 1984, he was banned for three years for accepting £1,000 from professional gambler Harry Bardsley in return for information. After his return, he won the 1989 Greenham Stakes on Zayyani, but spent much of the 1990s riding in Germany, where he won the Deutsches Derby in 1992 on Pik Konig.
