Mehmet Esat Işık
Mehmet Esat Işık (3 April 1865–1 November 1936) was a Turkish physician and politician, known for his contribution in the development of ophthalmology in his home country. Biography Mehmet Esat was born in Istanbul on 3 April 1865. Hasan Esat Işık (1916 – July 2, 1989) was a Turkish diplomat and politician. Biography Hasan Esat Işık was born in Istanbul. His father was Mehmet Esat, a well known physician. After graduating from Galatasaray High School and Ankara University Faculty of Law, he held various positions in Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as the Permanent Representative of the European Office in Geneva in 1952, and as Ambassador to Brussels, Moscow and Paris from 1962 to 1973. In 1965, he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the 29th cabinet of Turkey (AP-CKMP-YTP-MP) of Prime Minister Suat Hayri Ürgüplü. Ağa Yusuf Pasha
Ağa Yusuf Pasha (Yusuf Pasha the Agha), also known as Gürcü Yusuf Pasha (Yusuf Pasha the Georgian), was an 18th-century Ottoman military leader and Grand vizier. Yusuf Pasha was of Georgian origin and a devshirme. In 1710, he was appointed Agha of the Janissaries, commander of the Janissary corps. As a military leader, he became successful during the Pruth River Campaign (1710–1711). By the Treaty of Pruth (1711), Peter the Great of the Russian Empire agreed to provide a free passage for King Charles XII of Sweden to return to his country. The next year, Ağa Yusuf Pasha was appointed grand vizier. However, although a component commander, he lacked the skill of a statesman. When Peter the Great refused to allow a free passage for Charles XII, Ottoman Sultan Ahmed III (r. 1703–1730) decided to declare war on Russia. Grand vizier ( fa, وزيرِ اعظم, vazîr-i aʾzam; ota, صدر اعظم, sadr-ı aʾzam; tr, sadrazam) was the title of the effective head of government of many sovereign states in the Islamic world. The office of Grand Vizier was first held by officials in the later Abbasid Caliphate. It was then held in the Ottoman Empire, the Mughal Empire, the Sokoto Caliphate the Safavid Empire and Morocco.
