Medvedje Brdo
Medvedje Brdo (, german: Medwedjeberdo) is a dispersed settlement in the Rovte Hills northwest of Logatec in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. Name Medvedje Brdo was attested in historical documents as ''S. Kathrein'' in 1496, referring to Saint Catherine's Church in the village. The name ''Medvedje Brdo'' literally means 'bear hill', but like similar place names (e.g., '' Medvedjek'', '' Medvedje selo'', '' Medvedce'') it may be derived from an animal-based surname rather than directly from the zoonym itself. Church The local church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Catherine and belongs to the Parish A parish is a territorial entity in many Christian denominations, constituting a division within a diocese. Flag Of Slovenia
The national flag of Slovenia ( sl, zastava Slovenije) features three equal horizontal bands of white (top), blue, and red, with the Coat of arms of Slovenia located in the upper hoist side of the flag centered in the white and blue bands. The coat of arms is a shield with the image of Mount Triglav, Slovenia's highest peak, in white against a blue background at the center; beneath it are two wavy blue lines representing the Adriatic Sea and local rivers, and above it are three six-pointed golden stars arranged in an inverted triangle which are taken from the coat of arms of the Counts of Celje, the great Slovene dynastic house of the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The flag's colors are considered to be Pan-Slavism, Pan-Slavic, but they actually come from the Middle Ages, medieval coat of arms of the Duchy of Carniola, consisting of 3 stars, a mountain, and three colors (red, blue, yellow). crescent. Logatec
Logatec (; german: Loitsch, it, Longatico) is a town in Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Logatec. It is located roughly in the centre of Inner Carniola, between the capital Ljubljana and Postojna. The town of Logatec has seen rapid industrial development and immigration since the completion of the nearby A1 motorway to the coast. Name The name ''Logatec'' is of Celtic origin, probably derived from Celtic ''*longatis'' 'ferryman, boatman', from the Proto-Celtic word ''*longā'' 'ship', thus meaning 'ferrymen's settlement'. The name became ''Longaticum'' in Latin, which was borrowed into Slavic as ''*Lǫgatьcь''. Early attestations of the Slavic name include ''Logach'' in 1265 (and ''Logatzc'' in 1296, ''Logatsch'' in 1307, ''Logacz'' in 1319, and ''de Logas'' in 1354). History The earliest mentions of the settlement are from Roman times (Roman way station ''Mansio Longatico''). The vicinity of trade routes between the interior and the coast has always played an ... Parish
A parish is a territorial entity in many Christian denominations, constituting a division within a diocese. A parish is under the pastoral care and clerical jurisdiction of a priest, often termed a parish priest, who might be assisted by one or more curates, and who operates from a parish church. Historically, a parish often covered the same geographical area as a manor. Its association with the parish church remains paramount. By extension the term ''parish'' refers not only to the territorial entity but to the people of its community or congregation as well as to church property within it. In England this church property was technically in ownership of the parish priest ''ex-officio'', vested in him on his institution to that parish. Etymology and use First attested in English in the late, 13th century, the word ''parish'' comes from the Old French ''paroisse'', in turn from la, paroecia, the latinisation of the grc, παροικία, paroikia, "sojourning in a foreign ... -onym
The suffix ''-onym'' (from grc, ὄνυμα / name) is a bound morpheme, that is attached to the end of a root word, thus forming a new compound word that designates a particular ''class'' of names. In linguistic terminology, compound words that are formed with suffix -onym are most commonly used as designations for various onomastic classes. Most onomastic terms that are formed with suffix -onym are classical compounds, whose word roots are taken from classical languages (Greek and Latin). For example, onomastic terms like toponym and linguonym are typical classical (or neoclassical) compounds, formed from suffix ''-onym'' and classical (Greek and Latin) root words ( grc, τόπος / place; la, lingua / language). In some compounds, the ''-onym'' morpheme has been modified by replacing (or dropping) the "o". In the compounds like ''ananym'' and '' metanym'', the correct forms (''anonym'' and '' metonym'') were pre-occupied by other meanings. Other, late 20th century examp ... Dispersed Settlement
A dispersed settlement, also known as a scattered settlement, is one of the main types of settlement patterns used by landscape historians to classify rural settlements found in England and other parts of the world. Typically, there are a number of separate farmsteads scattered throughout the area. A dispersed settlement contrasts with a nucleated village. It can be known as main human settlements. The French term ''bocage'' is sometimes used to describe the type of landscape found where dispersed settlements are common. In addition to Western Europe, dispersed patterns of settlement are found in parts of Papua New Guinea, as among the Gainj, Ankave, and Baining tribes. It is also frequently met with in nomadic pastoral societies. In Ghana, Kumbyili in the northern region is also an example of a dispersed settlement England In England, dispersed settlements are often found in the areas of ancient enclosure outside the central region—for example, Essex, Kent and the West Cou ...
