McDonald Creek (Salt Fork Brazos River Tributary)
McDonald Creek is an intermittent stream, about long, heading about south-southwest of Crosbyton, Texas, and trending generally southeast to join the Salt Fork Brazos River near the community of Verbena, Texas. Geography McDonald Creek rises along the eastern edge of the Caprock Escarpment of the Llano Estacado. The stream channel initially runs southeast then curves to the southwest where it merges with Turkey Creek about west-northwest of Kalgary, Texas. It then runs south to join Lake Creek about upstream of Farm to Market Road 651. The stream then runs southeast where it merges with the Salt Fork Brazos River at a low-water crossing on Farm to Market Road 2008, near the sparsely populated community of Verbena. Overall, McDonald Creek descends about from its source to its mouth, passing through highly eroded and moderately steep terrain along its course. Crosby County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 5,133. The county seat is Crosbyton. The county was founded in 1876 and later organized in 1886. Both the county and its seat are named for Stephen Crosby, a land commissioner in Texas. Crosby County, along with Lubbock and Lynn Counties, is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The Lubbock MSA and Levelland Micropolitan Statistical Area (µSA), encompassing only Hockley County, form the larger Lubbock–Levelland Combined Statistical Area. Until the passage of a referendum to permit liquor sales, held on May 11, 2013, Crosby County had been one of 19 remaining prohibition or entirely dry counties within Texas. Caprock Escarpment
The Caprock Escarpment is a term used in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico to describe the geographical transition point between the level High Plains of the Llano Estacado and the surrounding rolling terrain. In Texas, the escarpment stretches around south-southwest from the northeast corner of the Texas Panhandle near the Oklahoma border. The escarpment is especially notable, from north to south, in Briscoe, Floyd, Motley, Crosby, Dickens, Garza, and Borden Counties. In New Mexico, a prominent escarpment exists along the northernmost extension of the Llano Estacado, especially to the south of San Jon and Tucumcari, both in Quay County, New Mexico.
