McCarty Creek
McCarty Creek is a stream in Vernon and Barton counties, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary to Clear Creek. The stream headwaters arise in northern Vernon County about two miles northwest of Milford The stream flows north-northeast to enter southeastern Vernon County about four miles from the source. It continues passing east of Bellamy and west of Montevallo to its confluence with Clear Creek about eight miles southwest of El Dorado Springs. The source area for the stream is at and the confluence is at at an elevation of . McCarty Creek was named for a pioneer who settled there in the 1830s. Vernon County, Missouri
Vernon County is located in the western region of the U.S. state of Missouri, on the border with Kansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,159. Its county seat is Nevada. The county was organized on February 27, 1855, considerably later than counties in the eastern part of the state. It was named for Colonel Miles Vernon (1786–1867), a state senator and veteran of the Battle of New Orleans. This was part of the large historic territory of the Osage Nation of Native Americans. History The county was developed for agriculture and is still mostly rural. Vernon County suffered considerable damage during the American Civil War. Guerrillas and insurgents had waged raids against Union troops and carried out personal vendettas in the county. Clear Creek is a stream in Cedar, Barton, Vernon and St. Clair counties of southwest Missouri. It is a tributary to the Osage River. The stream source area is in northeastern Barton County about 1.5 miles northeast of Irwin and the stream flows northeast then north passing through the Clear Creek Conservation Area into Vernon County and east of the community of Rousertown. The stream turns northeast and crosses Missouri Route E and U.S. Route 54 near the community of Dederick. Montevallo is an unincorporated community in southeast Vernon County, Missouri, United States. The community is on Missouri Route E between Milo (10 miles west) and Olympia four miles to the east in adjacent Cedar County. Nevada is approximately 16 miles to the northeast.
