Mazon Station
Mazon station was a small Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway station in Mazon, Illinois. The station was 66 miles west of Chicago on the BNSF Southern Transcon line. It also served the Kankakee and Seneca railroad. The most famous Santa Fe trains such as the ''Chief, Super Chief'', and ''El Capitan'' didn't stop at Mazon. The ''Grand Canyon Limited'' train numbers 123 and 124 were the only service to Mazon. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the larger railroads in the United States. The railroad was chartered in February 1859 to serve the cities of Atchison and Topeka, Kansas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The railroad reached the Kansas–Colorado border in 1873 and Pueblo, Colorado, in 1876. To create a demand for its services, the railroad set up real estate offices and sold farmland from the land grants that it was awarded by Congress. Despite being chartered to serve the city, the railroad chose to bypass Santa Fe, due to the engineering challenges of the mountainous terrain. Grand Canyon Limited
The ''Grand Canyon Limited'' was one of the named passenger trains of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. It was train Nos. 23 & 24 between Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California. History In 1901 the Santa Fe Railroad completed a 64-mile (103-km) branch from Williams, Arizona, to "Grand Canyon Village" at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The first scheduled train arrived from Williams on September 17 of that year; branch line trains and excursions from Southern California, Chicago, and Texas could run directly to the Rim. On June 29, 1929, service commenced on the ''Grand Canyon Limited'', which became a celebrated vacation train. Southern Transcon
The Southern Transcon is a main line of BNSF Railway comprising 11 subdivisions between Southern California and Chicago, Illinois. Chief (train)
The ''Chief'' was a long-distance named passenger train of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway that ran between Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles, California. The Santa Fe initiated the ''Chief'' in 1926 to supplement the ''California Limited''. In 1936 the ''Super Chief'' was introduced, soon eclipsing the ''Chief'' as the standard bearer of the Santa Fe. The ''Chief'' was discontinued in 1968 due to high operating costs, competition from airlines, and the loss of Postal Office contracts. Super Chief
The ''Super Chief'' was one of the named passenger trains and the flagship of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The streamliner claimed to be "The Train of the Stars" because of the various celebrities it carried between Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California. The ''Super Chief'' (Nos. 17 and 18) was the first diesel-electric powered cross-country passenger train in America. The train eclipsed the '' Chief'' as Santa Fe's standard bearer. The ''El Capitan'' was a streamliner, streamlined passenger train operated by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway ("Santa Fe") between Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California.
