In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated. Timmins
Timmins ( ) is a city in northeastern Ontario, Canada, located on the Mattagami River. The city is the fourth-largest city in the Northeastern Ontario region with a population of 41,145 (2021). The city's economy is based on natural resource extraction, and is supported by industries related to lumbering, and to the mining of gold, zinc, copper, nickel and silver. Timmins serves as a regional service and distribution centre. The city has a large Francophone community, with more than 50% bilingual in French and English. History Research performed by archaeologists indicate that human settlement in the area is at least 6,000 years old; it's believed the oldest traces found are from a nomadic people of the Shield Archaic culture. Up until contact with settlers, the land belonged to the Mattagami First Nation peoples. Karl Eyre
Karl Arliss Eyre (June 11, 1896 – September 4, 1964) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Timmins in the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 1957 as a member of the Liberal Party. Prior to his election to the House of Commons, Eyre served one term as Mayor of Timmins. Wilf Spooner
Joseph Wilfred Spooner (February 8, 1910 – February 14, 2001) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1955 to 1967 who represented the northern Ontario riding of Cochrane South. He was a cabinet minister in the governments of Leslie Frost and John Robarts. Prior to his provincial role he served as a municipal councillor for Timmins City Council from 1939 to 1951 and then as mayor of Timmins from 1952 to 1955. Background Outside politics Spooner was an accountant and worked for an insurance agency serving clients in northeastern Ontario. Spooner was one of the charter members of the Rotary Club of Timmins. Michael Doody
Michael J. J. Doody (born September 29, 1936) is a Canadian politician, who served as mayor of Timmins, Ontario from 1977 to 1980. Early life In 1959, Doody moved from his hometown of Val d'Or, Quebec to Timmins to work at CKGB-FM. In 1974, Doody began working at CFCL-TV and hosted a talk and current affairs show, ''Midday''. Municipal politics Doody was elected as a town councillor in 1970. He then ran for Mayor in 1976, defeating incumbent, Leo Del Villano, and served in this position from 1977 to 1980; two terms of office. He then exited politics until 1985, when he was elected as a councillor and remained in this position until 1996. In 2005, Councillor Yves Malette left council and the mayor and city council asked Doody to step in for his ward. He was subsequently re-elected as a councillor in the 2006 municipal election, and retained this office in the 2010 municipal election.

Jamie Christine Berberabe Lim (born May 13, 1997) is a Filipino karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's kumite +61kg event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines. In June 2021, Lim competed at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Paris, France hoping to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. In November 2021, she competed in the women's 61kg event at the World Karate Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In December 2021, she won the silver medal in the women's kumite 61kg event at the Asian Karate Championships held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Tom Laughren
Tom Laughren is a Canadian politician and former mayor of Timmins, Ontario. He took office on December 7, 2006, succeeding retiring longtime mayor Vic Power. Laughren was acclaimed to the position after running unopposed in the November 2006 municipal election. Laughren first served as a city councillor for Timmins City Council from 1994 to 2003. He was reelected in the 2010 municipal election, winning nearly 90 per cent of the vote over challenger Allan Manchester. Laughren is a lifelong resident of the Porcupine neighbourhood in Timmins. He and his wife, Maureen, have been married for 28 years and they have three daughters. He announced in 2014 that he would not run for reelection to a third term in the 2014 municipal election, and would instead be taking a private sector job with mining company Lake Shore Gold.

Steve Black (politician)
Steven L. Black is a Canadian politician, who served as mayor of Timmins, Ontario from 2014 to 2018. He was elected in the municipal election on October 27, 2014, defeating former councillor Todd Lever by taking 65% of the vote, and becoming Timmins' youngest mayor ever elected. He succeeded retiring mayor Tom Laughren. Originally from Oshawa, Ontario, he studied mining engineering at Queen's University, and moved to Timmins in 2004 to complete a co-operative education term with the city's Kidd Creek Mine. He coached minor hockey for six seasons, and has been involved with the Timmins and Schumacher minor hockey associations. Prior to his election to the mayoralty, Black served as a city councillor on the Timmins City Council from 2010 to 2014. George Pirie (politician)
George Pirie is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the 2022 Ontario general election, 2022 provincial election.
