Max Silverstein
USS ''Silverstein'' (DE-534) was a in service with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1947 and from 1951 to 1958. She was sold for scrapping in 1973. Namesake Max Silverstein was born on 15 February 1911 in Chicago, Illinois. He was appointed midshipman at the United States Naval Academy on 18 June 1928. He was commissioned ensign on 2 June 1932 and went to sea in on the 26th as an aircraft gunnery observer. In navies and the maritime industry, damage control is the emergency control of situations that may cause the sinking of a watercraft. A sea trial is the testing phase of a watercraft (including boats, ships, and submarines). It is also referred to as a " shakedown cruise" by many naval personnel. It is usually the last phase of construction and takes place on open water, and it can last from a few hours to many days.
