Maude Davison
Maude C. Davison (27 March 1885 – 11 June 1956) was a Canadian-born, American nurse. After a career in Canada, she moved to the United States. She served as the Chief Nurse of the United States Army Nurse Corps in the Philippines during World War II. She received numerous awards for her military service in both World War I and World War II. In 2001, she posthumously was granted a Distinguished Service Medal for her leadership of the Angels of Bataan, the first and largest group of American military women taken as Prisoners of War. Early life Maude Campbell was born on 27 March 1885 in Cannington, Ontario, Canada to Janet (or Jeannette) Campbell. In 1894, her mother, who had immigrated from Scotland, married Abraham Sidders. Cannington, Ontario
Cannington is a community in Brock Township, Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. The town is on the Beaver River. History Originally part of the original Brock Township, (historic map) Cannington was first settled in 1833. It was first known as McCaskill's Mills after a local mill-owning family. In 1849, a post office was opened, at which point the settlement was renamed Cannington after former British foreign secretary and Prime Minister George Canning (1770–1827). Cannington separated from Brock Township in 1878 when it was incorporated as a Village. When Durham Region was created in 1974, Cannington was amalgamated with the original Brock Township, Thorah Township and the Village of Beaverton to create the newly expanded Township of Brock. Josephine Nesbit
Josephine May Nesbit (also known as Josie Nesbit; December 23, 1894 – August 16, 1993) was an American nurse who served in the Army Nurse Corps. She was second-in-command of the Angels of Bataan, Army nurses stationed in the Philippine Islands during World War II who were the largest group of American women taken as prisoners of war. Nesbit was noted for her "humane, dynamic leadership style." She was credited with the survival of the nurses during the years they were held in captivity at Santo Tomas Internment Camp. Early life and education Nesbit was born on her family's farm near Butler, Missouri on December 23, 1894. She was the seventh of ten children and experienced a difficult early childhood.
