Matthew Cradock (MP Died 1636)
Matthew Cradock (1584–1636) was an English wool merchant and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1629. Cradock was the son of George Cradock of Stafford. He was the first mayor Stafford in 1614. In 1615 he purchased the neglected Caverswall Castle. He built a mansion house retaining the old castle walls, to a design, it is said, of Robert Smythson or John Smythson. The three storey house has five bays each with stone mullioned and transomed windows. There is a castellated parapet and an entrance porch. In 1621, Cradock was elected Member of Parliament for Stafford. He was re-elected MP for Stafford in 1624 and 1625. He was elected MP for Stafford again in 1628 and sat until 1629 when King Charles dispensed with parliament for eleven years. Matthew Cradock (died 1590s)
Matthew Cradock (also spelled Craddock and Craddocke; died 27 May 1641) was a London merchant, politician, and the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Company. Founded in 1628, it was an organization of Puritan businessmen that organized and established the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Although he never visited the colony, Cradock owned property and businesses there, and he acted on its behalf in London. His business and trading empire encompassed at least 18 ships, and extended from the West Indies and North America to Europe and the Near East. He was a dominant figure in the tobacco trade. Cradock was a strong supporter of the Parliamentary cause in the years leading up to the English Civil War. He opposed royalist conservatism in the East India Company and, as a member of the Long Parliament, supported the '' Root and Branch'' attempts to radically reform the Church of England. Richard Dyott (died 1660)
Sir Richard Dyott (c. 1591 – 8 March 1660) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1623 and 1640. He was a Royalist during the English Civil War. Dyott was the son of Anthony Dyott, Member of Parliament of Freeford Manor, near Lichfield. He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1615, and became Recorder of Stafford in 1624. In 1623 Dyott was elected Member of Parliament for Stafford for two parliaments, and then in 1625 was elected Member of Parliament for Lichfield. He held the seat until 1629 when King Charles I decided to rule without parliament. In April1640 he was re-elected for Lichfield for the Short Parliament. Dyott was knighted and was a member of the privy council of King Charles at York. He was High Steward of Lichfield and Chancellor of the County Palatine of Durham. Dyott died at the age of 69. Bulstrode Whitlock
Sir Bulstrode Whitelocke (6 August 1605 – 28 July 1675) was an English lawyer, writer, parliamentarian and Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England. Early life He was the eldest son of Sir James Whitelocke and Elizabeth Bulstrode, and was born on 6 August 1605 at George Croke's house in Fleet Street, London. He was baptized on 19 August 1605 at the nearby church of St Dunstan-in-the-West, where his mother's parents were married in 1571; his notorious uncle Edmund Whitelocke, being one of the godfathers, announced that the child was to be called Bulstrode. The vicar demurred, but Edmund insisted that he bear his mother's name, "Bulstrode or Elizabeth, let them choose which they please". Bulstrode was educated briefly at Eton College, then at Merchant Taylors' School and at St John's College, Oxford, where he matriculated on 8 December 1620.
