Thomas Gibbs (mayor)
Thomas Fortson Gibbs (1798–1859) was an American politician who served as the 5th mayor of Atlanta. In John H. James' remembrances of this time, he describes the mayor as "Dr. Gibbs" but doesn't explain what sort of doctor. He represented Elbert County, Georgia in the state house in 1837 and came to Atlanta after 1850. He ran and won as the city's fifth mayor for 1852 and ran for a second term January 17, 1853 but was defeated by John Mims. Shortly after this, he left town, possibly to Memphis, Tennessee. He was married to Caroline Rebecca Harris (1807–1888) and they had eight children before his death. Gibbs left Atlanta Atlanta ( ) is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Georgia. Thomas Nicholson Gibbs
Thomas Nicholson Gibbs (March 11, 1821 – April 7, 1883) was a Canadian parliamentarian. Born in Terrebonne, Lower Canada (now Quebec), the eldest son of Thomas Gibbs and Caroline Tate, his family moved to Oshawa, Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1832. He became one of the most successful business men in Canada. In 1867, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of Ontario South. A Liberal-Conservative, he was re-elected in 1872. He was defeated in 1874 but was re-elected in an 1876 by-election. However, he was defeated again in 1878. In 1873, he was the Secretary of State for the Provinces, Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs, and the Minister of Inland Revenue. In 1880, he was appointed to the Senate representing the senatorial division of Newmarket, Ontario. He died in office in 1883. Thomas Van Renssalaer Gibbs
Thomas Van Renssalaer Gibbs (September 16, 1855 – October 31, 1898) was a member of the 1885 Florida Constitutional Convention, served in the Florida House of Representatives, and was a school administrator. He was nominated to West Point by Representative Josiah Walls, who was also African American. In the legislature, Gibbs helped pass legislation establishing a white normal school in Gainesville, Florida and a "colored school" in Jacksonville. State Normal College for Colored Students was a predecessor of Florida A&M College and was relocated to Tallahassee where it opened in 1887 with 15 students. Gibbs served as its assistant principal and Vice President until his death in 1898. The only son of Jonathan Clarkson Gibbs, Thomas married Alice Menard, the daughter of politician John Willis Menard who in 1868 was the first African American elected to Congress. Stafford is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Theodora Clarke, a Conservative. The seat since its resurrection in 1983 has proven to be somewhat of a bellwether being held always by the incumbent government although it currently has a significantly higher vote share for the Conservatives than the average constituency. Elections were held on November 2, 2010 to determine Louisiana's seven members of the United States House of Representatives. Representatives were elected for two-year terms to serve in the 112th United States Congress from January 3, 2011 until January 3, 2013. Primary elections were held on August 28, 2010, and a runoff election for the Republican Party nomination in the 3rd district took place on October 2, 2010.
