The Matsu Distillery () is a distillery in Niujiao Village, Nangan Township, Lienchiang County, Taiwan. History The distillery was originally established in 1956 as Zhongxing Distillery. In 1969, it was renamed to Matsu Distillery. In 1992, the distillery acquired Tunnel 88 from Chunghwa Telecom Chunghwa Telecom Company, Ltd. Nangan, Lienchiang
Nangan Township () is a rural township in the Matsu Islands and the county seat of Lienchiang County, Fujian. There is an airport in Nangan. The highest point is Yuntai Mountain, at above sea level. Name Nangan Township is named for Nangan Island (Nankan Island), the main island in the township. Nangan was also known Nangantang (; Nàng-găng-dòng). Because Lin Moniang's (who later became the Goddess Mazu) bodily relic was claimed to be washed ashore here, Nangan was also known as Matsu Island / Ma-tsu Island / Matsu Shan / Matsu-Shan (Matsoo/ Matsoo shan) (; Mā-cū-dō̤). Matsu Islands
The Matsu Islands ( or , ; Foochow Romanized: Mā-cū liĕk-dō̤), officially Lienchiang County (, ; Foochow Romanized: Lièng-gŏng-gâing), are an archipelago of 36 islands and islets in the East China Sea governed by the Republic of China (ROC) based in Taiwan, with its location sitting alongside southeastern coast of mainland China. Kaoliang Liquor
Kaoliang liquor, Gaoliang liquor or Sorghum liquor is a strong distilled liquor of Chinese origin made from fermented sorghum. It is a type of light-aroma Baijiu. The liquor originates from Dazhigu (, located east of Tianjin), first appearing in the Ming Dynasty and is widely consumed across northern China in provinces such as Hebei, Shaanxi, and Shandong. Tunnel 88
The Tunnel 88 () is a tunnel in Nangan Township, Lienchiang County, Taiwan. History The tunnel was dug and enlarged by the Republic of China Armed Forces in 1974 to accommodate tanks in the aftermath of Second Taiwan Strait Crisis with the People's Liberation Army in 1958. It took them 10 years to fully finish the work. It was then named Tunnel 88 to commemorate the 88th birthday of Chiang Kai-shek in 1975, the year he died. The tunnel was then later used by Chunghwa Telecom for apparatus room. In 1992, it was handed over to Matsu Distillery. Currently the tunnel is used to store jugs of Kaoliang liquor. Architecture At the front entrance of the tunnel, there are rows of wine jug stacks. Geology The tunnel is a granite rock type with 264 meters long. Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc., also known as Kinmen Distillery, KKL, is a distillery in Kinmen County, Taiwan and owned by Kinmen County Government. The distillery is known for its Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor, and provides good tax income for the local government. The company also runs a basketball team, the Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Basketball, in the Super Basketball League of Taiwan. History Yeh Hua-cheng (葉華成) opened Jincheng Distillery in 1950 to make Kaoliang in Kinmen. The next year, 1951, Commander Hu Lien in charge of the Kinmen Defense Command tasted Yeh's Kaoliang and thought it was great.
