Matale Municipal Council
The Matale Municipal Council ( Sinhala: මාතලේ මහ නගර සභා mātalē maha nagara sabhāva) is the local council for Matale. It is a large regional city located in the heart of island's central hills, it is the capital and largest city in Matale district. The council was formed in 1963 under the Municipalities Ordinance Act of 1865. It has 21 elected representatives, comprising ten seats held by the United National Party, four seats by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and six by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. Matale ( Sinhala: මාතලේ, ta, மாத்தளை, translit=Māttaḷai) is the administrative capital city of the Matale District. It is the most urbanised and populated centre in the district. Matale is also the second largest municipal and urban centre in central province after Kandy. It is located at the heart of the central hills of the island and lies in a broad, fertile valley at an elevation of above sea level. Surrounding the city are the Knuckles Mountain Range, the foothills were called ''Wiltshire'' by the British. They have also called this place as Matelle. Central Highlands Of Sri Lanka
Central Highlands of Sri Lanka is a recognised world Heritage Site in Sri Lanka. The site comprises the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, Peak Wilderness Protected Area, the Horton Plains National Park and the Knuckles Mountain Range, Knuckles Conservation Forest. These are rain forests, where the elevation reaches above sea level. The region harbors a variety of mammal species including the bear monkey, ''Trachypithecus vetulus monticola'', (a subspecies of purple-faced langur) and the Horton Plains slender loris, ''Loris tardigradus nycticeboides'', (a subspecies of red slender loris). This is the first Sri Lankan World Heritage site to be designated in 22 years, since the Sinharaja Forest Reserve was enlisted in 1988. The Ceylon Electricity Board - CEB ( si, ලංකා විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලය - ලංවිම, Lankā Vidulibala Mandalaya - Lanwima; ta, இலங்கை மின்சார சபை - இமிச), is the largest electricity company in Sri Lanka. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. ''Grama Niladhari'' (''village officers'') ( si, ග්රාම නිලධාරී) is a Sri Lankan public official appointed by the central government to carry out administrative duties in a ''grama niladhari'' division, which is a sub-unit of a divisional secretariat. They come under the Grama Niladhari Division under the Home Affairs Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
