María José Marenco
María José Marenco (born September 27, 1976) is a Salvadoran former swimmer. She represented El Salvador at the age of 15 at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona in the 200 metre freestyle, 400 metre freestyle and 800 metre freestyle competing in the heats. She also acted as the flag bearer for the El Salvador team of 4 athletes during the opening ceremony. Marenco represented El Salvador at the Central American Games and the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships on a number of occasions. Life and career Born into a wealthy family in San Salvador, his father Felix Cristiani was an Italian immigrant from Bagnaria, Italy and his mother Margoth Burkard de Cristiani was Salvadoran of Swiss descent. Central American And Caribbean Swimming Championships
The CCCAN Championships are a biennial aquatics championship for countries in Central America and the Caribbean. The name of the event comes from the event's organizers: the Central American & Caribbean Swimming Confederation, whose abbreviated name is CCCAN. The CCCAN Championships are held every odd year, and began in 1960. The 2013 CCCANs were originally awarded to Guatemala, however, in late 2012, the city announced it could not host the championships. In early 2013, San José, Costa Rica came forward to host the event. In addition to CCCAN members, South American countries which border on the Caribbean have also participated in the championships, including Suriname, Colombia and Venezuela. Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. The Central American Games ( es, Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos) are a multi-sport regional championships event, held quadrennial (every 4 years), typically in the first year after Summer Olympics. The Games are open for member federations of the Central American Sports Organization (Spanish: Organización Deportiva Centroamericana) ORDECA in Central American countries.
