Central American Games
The Central American Games ( es, Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos) are a multi-sport regional championships event, held quadrennial (every 4 years), typically in the first year after Summer Olympics. The Games are open for member federations of the Central American Sports Organization (Spanish: Organización Deportiva Centroamericana) ORDECA in Central American countries. (in Spanish) The Games have had an equivalent to the Olympic Flame, being ignited in Q'umarkaj, one of the ancient cultural Mayan centers located in El Quiché, Guatemala. However, some people and organizations have criticised the games for not including the Mesoamerican ballgame, the oldest ball sport in the continent, on the sports programme. The competition is the second multi-sport event to have the name: the Central American and Caribbean Games began life in 1926 as the Central American Games and had this moniker until it expanded its remit in 1935. Carlos Roberto Reina
Carlos Roberto Reina Idiáquez (13 March 1926 – 19 August 2003) was a Honduran politician, lawyer and diplomat who served as the President of Honduras from 1994 to 1998. He was a member of the Honduran Liberal Party. Background He was born in the city of Comayagüela, Honduras. His wife, Bessie Watson, was an American citizen with whom he had two daughters. He completed university studies in the National Autonomous University of Honduras where he earned a bachelor's degree in Juridical and Social Sciences. The VI Central American Games (''Spanish: VI Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos'') was a multi-sport event that took place between 5–15 December 1997. The shooting competitions were hosted by San Salvador, El Salvador. The games had to be postponed, because the original date (5–14 September 1997) could not be kept for various reasons, among others delayed construction works. The games were opened by Honduran president Carlos Roberto Reina. Armando Calderón Sol (24 June 1949 – 9 October 2017) was President of El Salvador from 1 June 1994, to 1 June 1999, representing the Nationalist Republican Alliance. He was the first president elected in El Salvador after twelve years of civil war. José Azcona Del Hoyo
José Simón Azcona del Hoyo (26 January 1927 – 24 October 2005) was President of Honduras from 27 January 1986 to 27 January 1990 for the Liberal Party of Honduras (PLH). He was born in La Ceiba in Honduras. Early life and career Azcona spent the years from 1935 to 1949 living in Cantabria, Spain with his maternal grandparents. He grew up there during the Spanish Civil War. He returned to Honduras in 1949, working in his family's trading company. He then went to study in the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) graduating in civil engineering, with postgraduate studies from the University of Monterrey in Mexico. The III Central American Games (''Spanish: III Juegos Deportivos Centroamericanos'') was a multi-sport event that took place between 4–10 January 1986. Initially, the Games were scheduled for 1981 in Managua, Nicaragua, but were cancelled due to the unstable political situation. The Games were called the "Peace Games" (''Spanish: Juegos de la Paz''). The official song was the "Hymn of the Peace Games" (''Spanish: Himno de los Juegos de la Paz'') composed by Alfonso Agulló. General Carlos Humberto Romero Mena (29 February 1924 – 27 February 2017) was a Salvadoran army general politician who served as President of El Salvador from 1 July 1977, until his overthrow in a coup d'état on 15 October 1979. Early life Romero was born in Chalatenango, El Salvador, on 19 February 1924.
