Marvi Memon
Marvi Memon ( ur, ; born 21 July 1972) is a Pakistani politician who recently served as Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, from February 2015 until June 2018. She had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from March 2008 to June 2011 and again from June 2013 to May 2018. Early life and education Memon was born in July 1972 in Karachi, Pakistan to Nisar Memon. Memon studied in Karachi, Kuwait City and Paris, She then enrolled in the London School of Economics from where she completed her BSc (Econ.) Honors in International Relations in 1993. Benazir Income Support Programme
The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is a federal unconditional cash transfer poverty reduction program in Pakistan. Launched in July 2008, it was the largest single social safety net program in the country with nearly Rs. 90 billion ($900 million) distributed to 5.4 million beneficiaries in 2016. The program distributed Rs.19,338 (or approx. $195) per annum distributed per month in the year 2016. The stipend is linked to the Consumer price index, Consumer Price Index and is paid through a smart card. The Department for International Development of the Government of the United Kingdom, United Kingdom is the largest foreign backer of the program, providing $244 million (or 27%) of the total funds in 2016 with the Government of Pakistan, Pakistani Government providing the rest. Memon People
The Memon are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group that originated in the Sindh region of Pakistan. The majority of the Memon people around the world follow the Hanafi fiqh of Sunni Islam. The Memon people have cultural similarities with the Khoja, Khatri (Vohra), and Gujarati peoples. Memon people speak the Memoni language as their first language. Some consider the Memon language to be a dialect of the Sindhi language. The Memon language shares vocabulary with the Sindhi language, Kutchi language and Gujarati language. Mohammad Enver Baig (Urdu: محمد انور بیگ) is a Pakistani politician and former member of the Senate of Pakistan. He was affiliated politically with the Pakistan Peoples Party until 2012 before joining the Pakistan Muslim League (N). He served as chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme from 2013 to 2014.
