Martiens Le Roux
Marthinus 'Martiens' le Roux (born 30 March 1951 – 14 October 2006) was a South African rugby union player. Playing career Le Roux played his entire provincial career for the Free State Cheetahs, Free State and made 162 appearances for his province. He was part of the Free State team that won the province’s first Currie Cup trophy in 1976 Currie Cup, 1976. Le Roux made his test debut for the Springboks on 31 May 1980 at Newlands Stadium, Newlands in Cape Town against the touring British and Irish Lions team, captained by Bill Beaumont. He played in all four tests against the 1980 British Lions tour to South Africa, Lions and followed it with tests against the 1980 South Africa rugby union tour of South America, South American Jaguars, 1980 France rugby union tour of South Africa, France and 1981 Ireland rugby union tour of South Africa, Ireland. Wesselsbron
Wesselsbron is a small maize farming town 75 kilometres south of Bothaville in Free State province of South Africa. Town 32 km east of Hoopstad and 48 km north-west of Welkom. It was laid out in 1920 and became a municipality in 1936. Named after Commandant Cornelis J Wessels who was in command of the Siege of Kimberley from 13 October 1899 to 12 February 1900. Bron is Afrikaans for ‘source’, ‘spring’. Wesselsbron has a vast district which stretches from the Vet River in the south to the Vaal River in the north. The main cultivation is corn, but also wheat, sunflower and peanuts are cultivated. The grain silos of Senwes are the biggest silo complex in the Southern Hemisphere and can cope with the enormous amount of 275,000 tons of grain. South American Jaguars
The South American XV (sometimes known as CONSUR XV and formerly as South American Jaguars) is a rugby union team made up from the national rugby sides in the Sudamérica Rugby (formerly CONSUR) rugby federation. The squad was first formed in 1980 to compete against South African teams, despite the ban imposed on that country in repudiation of apartheid.
