Blue Bulls
The Blue Bulls (known for sponsorship reasons as the Vodacom Blue Bulls) is a South African rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup tournament. They are governed by the Blue Bulls Rugby Union and are based at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Gauteng province. In 1997 the Northern Transvaal team, representing the Northern Transvaal Rugby Union (NTRU), was renamed, officially taking on their then nickname the Blue Bulls. The NTRU itself became the Blue Bulls Rugby Union and the United Rugby Championship team operated by the union was renamed simply the Bulls (rugby), Bulls. When Vodacom became the team's major sponsor their name was added. Previously the side was sponsored by ExxonMobil and known as the Mobil Blue Bulls. Western Province (known for sponsorship reasons as DHL Western Province) is a South African professional rugby union team based in Newlands, Cape Town, that participates in the annual Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup tournaments. Founded in 1883, the team has won multiple titles, a record of 34 Currie Cup titles including the inaugural competition, the Vodacom Cup, the Absa Nite Series, and the Lion Cup. The club has the most supporters of any Currie Cup team. The Club is nicknamed ''Die Streeptruie'' ("The Striped Jerseys" in Afrikaans) in reference to their legendary blue and white hooped jerseys. Louis Schmidt (rugby Union)
Louis Ulrich Schmidt (6 February 1936 – 23 January 1999) was a South African rugby union player. Playing career Schmidt played provincial rugby for Northern Transvaal and captained the team on 25 occasions. He made his international debut for the Springboks in the second test match against the visiting team from , on 16 August 1958 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. Uli Schmidt
Ulrich Louis Schmidt (also known as Uli Schmidt) (born 10 July 1961 in Pretoria, South Africa) is a former South African rugby union footballer. His usual position was at hooker, where he played for the in the Currie Cup, and later the , as well as the national team, the Springboks. He later became a Springbok team doctor. Playing career Schmidt made his international debut for the Springboks as a 24-year-old on 10 May 1986 in a test against the NZ Cavaliers, which the Springboks won 21 to 15 at Newlands. He played in three subsequent tests against the New Zealand side throughout that May as well. Johannes Gerhardus "John" Williams (born 29 October 1946) is a former South African rugby union player and coach. Playing career Williams played his senior provincial rugby in South Africa for . He made his test debut for the Springboks in 1971 against the touring French team on 12 June 1971 at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. He also played test matches against Australia in 1971, England in 1972, the British Lions in 1974 and the 1976 All Blacks. The Free State Cheetahs (formerly the Orange Free State), currently named the Toyota Free State Cheetahs, for sponsorship reasons, are a South African rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup tournament. They are governed by the Free State Rugby Union and are based at the 48,000 capacity Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. The Griquas (; af, Griekwa, often confused with ''!Orana'', which is written as ''Korana'' or ''Koranna'') are a subgroup of heterogeneous former Khoe-speaking nations in Southern Africa with a unique origin in the early history of the Cape Colony. Keith Oxlee (17 December 1934 – 31 August 1998) was a South African rugby union player who represented South Africa in 19 tests between 1960 and 1965. He amassed 88 career test points, breaking Gerry Brand's 27-year-old South African record and setting one that stood for 20 years until it was surpassed by Naas Botha. Oxlee set a record for most points scored by a South African player in a test against the British and Irish Lions of 16 (5 conversion and 2 penalty kicks in the 4th test on 25 August 1962) which lasted until 1981.
