Marta Fernández (politician)
Marta Fernández Martín (born 23 August 1966) is a Spanish politician of the party Vox, president of the Cortes of Aragon since 2023. Biography Born in Zaragoza, Aragon, Fernández graduated with a law degree from the University of Zaragoza and worked as a lawyer for four years. After one year as an administrative assistant at Ibercaja Banco, she was in charge of human resources at Osca Gas between 1999 and 2019. Fernández was one of three deputies elected to the Cortes of Aragon for Vox in the 2019 election. In 2023, the party increased to seven seats and she was installed as the president of the Cortes (speaker) after an agreement with the ruling People's Party. She was the second woman in the office, after Violeta Barba. Fernández disabled her previous social media accounts after becoming president. Violeta Barba Borderías (born 1987) is a Spanish lawyer and former politician of the Podemos party. Formerly the leader of the youth sector of the United Left of Aragon, she joined Podemos and was elected to the Cortes of Aragon in the 2015 election, becoming president of the Cortes (speaker) the following year; she was the first woman and youngest person in the office. She ran for mayor in the 2019 Zaragoza City Council election but resigned days after only winning two seats, and returned to the legal profession.
