Marsiglia (Davagna)
Marsiglia is an Italian village and hamlet (''frazione'') of the municipality of Davagna in the Province of Genoa, Liguria. As of 2009 its population was of 55. History As for a local legend, the village was founded by some people from the French city of Marseille, that in Italian is spoken ''Marsiglia''. The village church, dedicated to the patron John the Baptist, was first mentioned in a church document of 1213. Geography Marsiglia is part of the municipal subdivision of Calvari, that includes the nearby villages of Calvari, Canate and Cavassolo. It is a hill village located upon the Bisagno river valley, from Davagna, from Bargagli and from the center of Genoa. The Province of Genoa (Italian ''Provincia di Genova'') was a province in the Liguria region of Italy. Its capital was the city of Genoa. It was replaced by Metropolitan City of Genoa. A ''frazione'' (plural: ) is a type of subdivision of a ''comune'' (municipality) in Italy, often a small village or hamlet outside the main town. Most ''frazioni'' were created during the Fascist era (1922–1943) as a way to consolidate territorial subdivisions in the country. Bisagno (stream)
The Bisagno (in Ligurian ''Besagno'' ) is a river in Liguria, (Italy). Geography The river rises near Scoffera pass at around 600 m in the Ligurian Apennines. It flows south-west in the Bisagno Valley and receives its two main tributaries, called ''torrente Lentro'' (from the left hand) and ''torrente Canate'' (from the right hand). Heading south it reaches Genova and ends its course in the Ligurian Sea. The last part of its course, from Genova Brignole railway station to the mouth, has been transformed in a water tunnel. Bisagno basin (95 km2) is totally included in the Province of Genova.
