Marsheaux
Marsheaux is a Greek synthpop duo formed in Athens in 2003. The group is composed of vocalists, songwriters and keyboardists Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou. The name Marsheaux is derived from the first syllable of each band member's name. Both members sing almost exclusively in English. Andy McCluskey of OMD said about this band: "I do have a soft spot for Marsheaux I have to say. They have a certain sort of wispy, melancholic charm". History Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou were born in Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2000, they moved to Athens and founded Marsheaux in 2003 to further their appreciation of electronic pop music. In 2015, they explained to a music blog called AZLTRON the origin of the band: "We were at a Depeche Mode party in Athens 12 years ago, and the guys from Undo Records told us that we can only play Depeche Mode themes in our synths. Peekaboo (album)
''Peekaboo'' is the second studio album of the synthpop duo Marsheaux. It was issued in 2006 by Undo Records. Upon its release in Marsheaux's native Greece in December 2006, it earned positive reviews from music critics. The album was formally released in the UK on 9 April 2007. It has also sold well internationally on the internet, principally in the UK and USA. ''Peekaboo'' is heavily influenced by the early analogue synthesizer works of Depeche Mode and The Human League. It contains two covers, "Regret" by New Order and " The Promise" by When in Rome. All vocals are in English. Reception The album has received favourable ratings from critics. E-Bay Queen
E-Bay Queen is the debut studio album recorded in English by Greek female synthpop duo Marsheaux. It was released in Greece on 30 June 2004 by Undo Records. ''E-Bay Queen'' is an Electronica album and is comparable in style to The Human League album Dare as it combines contrasting female vocals with early 1980s style analogue synthesizer tracks, and is also heavily influenced by the early works of Depeche Mode. It sold principally in Marsheaux's native Greece when first released but has since been revived by the international interest in Peekaboo and Undo Records are now marketing it towards an international audience. The album contains two full cover versions, an Electronica version of The Lightning Seeds track "Pure" which is sung by Marianthi; and Marsheaux's dark version of Gershon Kingsley's instrumental track Popcorn which received considerable radio play on mainland Europe in 2003 when it was released as a single in advance of the album. "Regret" is a song by British alternative rock band New Order. It was released on 5 April 1993 as the lead single from their sixth studio album, ''Republic'' (1993). Stephen Hague is credited as both the producer and as a co-writer. It was the band's first single released on CentreDate Co Ltd (through London Records) following the collapse of Factory Records. Anastasios "Sakis" Rouvas ( el, Αναστάσιος "Σάκης" Ρουβάς, ; born 5 January 1972), also known mononymously as Sakis, is a Greek singer, film and television actor, businessman and former pole vaulter and model. When in Rome are an English synth-pop/ new wave group, which originally consisted of vocalists Clive Farrington and Andrew Mann, and keyboardist Michael Floreale. "The Promise" is the debut single by the British band When in Rome. It was first released in 1987 on 10 Records, as the lead single from their self-titled debut album. It was written by all three band members: Clive Farrington, Andrew Mann and Michael Floreale. The song was released in the U.S. in 1988 and reached number 11 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. It is the band's biggest commercial hit. In 2020, Farrington and Mann, in collaboration with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Slovenia Symphonic Film Orchestra, released a 30th anniversary orchestral edition of their hit song "The Promise" on both CD and vinyl. Yazoo (known as Yaz in North America) were an English synth-pop duo from Basildon, Essex, consisting of former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke (keyboards) and Alison Moyet (vocals).
