Mark Philippoussis
Mark Anthony Philippoussis ( ; born 7 November 1976) is an Australian former professional tennis player of Greek and Italian descent. Philippoussis' greatest achievements are winning two Davis Cup titles with Australia in 1999 and 2003, winning the deciding rubber in the final of each. He also reached the final of the 1998 US Open and the 2003 Wimbledon singles tournaments. Philippoussis reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 8. Philippoussis has had a minor career in modelling and starred in the American reality television dating show '' Age of Love''. He is nicknamed 'the Scud', after the Scud missile. He is also known in Australia as “The Pou”. The United States' Andre Agassi defeated Spain's Sergi Bruguera in the final, 6–2, 6–3, 6–1 to win the gold medal in Men's Singles tennis at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The victory gave Agassi the fourth of five components of the career Golden Slam; his later win at the French Open made him the first man to complete the career Golden Slam in singles. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The 1999 Davis Cup (also known as the 1999 Davis Cup by NEC for sponsorship purposes) was the 88th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 129 teams entered the competition, 16 in the World Group, 30 in the Americas Zone, 32 in the Asia/Oceania Zone, and 51 in the Europe/Africa Zone. Larisa Neiland and Todd Woodbridge were the defending champions, but competed this year with different partners. 1997 French Open – Men's Doubles
Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Daniel Vacek successfully defended their title defeated Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in the final, 7–6(14–12), 4–6, 6–3 to win the men's doubles title at the French Open. Woobridge and Woodforde (collectively known as The Woodies) attempted their chance to make history to complete all four Grand Slams at once, having won the previous year's Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open earlier that year. But they lost to Kafelnikov and Vacek, ending their 23-winning match streak. This feat would later achieve by Bob and Mike Bryan in the 2013 Wimbledon Championships.
