Marius Thorp
Marius Thorp (born 28 June 1988) is a Norwegian professional golfer. Thorp had a successful amateur career, winning the European Amateur in 2005 and claiming the silver medal for lowest amateur in the 2006 Open Championship. He turned professional in 2007 and had immediate success, claiming four wins on mini-tours in Scandinavia. In 2010 Thorp joined the Challenge Tour and found further success at that level, with six top-10s in his debut season. He ended 2010 16th in the standings, which earned him a European Tour card for 2011. In September 2011 he announced that he was taking a break from golf, saying that his motivation and desire were no longer present. He hails from Bærum and represented the local golf club Bærum GK. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The 2007 European Amateur Team Championship took place 3–7 July at Western Gailes Golf Club in Irvine, Scotland, United Kingdom. It was the 25th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The club was founded in 1897. Its 18 hole links course on the Ayrshire coast in Irvine, North Ayrshire, 50 kilometres south west of the city center of Glasgow, was ready in 1899 and remained largely unmodified from its original layout. The European Amateur Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for men organised by the European Golf Association which was introduced in 1959. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Bonallack Trophy
The Bonallack Trophy is an amateur golf competition on the model of the Ryder Cup which opposes every two years a European team and a team representing Asia/Pacific. The venue alternates between courses in Europe and Asia/Pacific. The first competition took place in 1998 in Perth, Australia. Since 2016 it has been held concurrently with the women's Patsy Hankins Trophy. Europe leads the series 7 wins to 3. Format The Bonallack Trophy involves various match play competitions between players selected from two teams of twelve representing Europe and Asia/Pacific. 2006 Eisenhower Trophy
The 2006 Eisenhower Trophy took place 26–29 October at De Zalze Golf Club and Stellenbosch Golf Club in Stellenbosch, east of Cape Town, South Africa. It was the 25th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 70 three-man teams. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. Each team played two rounds on the two courses. The leading teams played at Stellenbosch Golf Club on the third day and at De Zalze Golf Club on the final day. The Netherlands won their first Eisenhower Trophy, two strokes ahead of Canada, who took the silver medal. The United States took the bronze medal while Wales finished in fourth place. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. From 2002 the teams have been three players with two counting. The 2004, 2010 and 2012 championships were reduced to 54 holes because of bad weather. Jacques Léglise Trophy
The Jacques Léglise Trophy is an annual amateur boys' team golf competition between Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It was first played in 1977, as a one-day match before the Boys Amateur Championship, but since 1996 it has been played as a separate two-day match. The venue generally alternates between Great Britain and Ireland and the continent. From 1958 to 1966 a similar match was played between a combined England and Scotland team and the Continent of Europe. History The event can trace its origins back to 1958. Junior Ryder Cup
The Junior Ryder Cup is a team golf competition between Europe and the United States for junior golfers aged 18 and under. It is based on the men's Ryder Cup and is run by the same organisations, the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe. The 2018 event took place at Golf Disneyland, Marne-la-Vallée, Paris, France on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 September. The United States won 12–11, their sixth successive victory in the event. Format The teams consist of six boys and six girls. From 2008 to 2018 the tournament was played over two days of foursomes, fourball and singles matches. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Later the venue rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom. It is organised by the R&A. The Open is one of the four men's major golf tournaments, the others being the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open.
