Marinus Bee
Marinus Bee (1971) is a Surinamese politician, Chairman of the National Assembly of Suriname, and sports manager. As sports manager, he was chairman of the Albina Sports Foundation for ten years, and since 2014 chairman of S.V. Papatam. Bee has been elected to the National Assembly for the General Liberation and Development Party (ABOP) since 2010 for the Marowijne District. Biography Bee was born as the oldest child of four in Moengo, and spend his youth in Paramaribo. He graduated from the Anton de Kom University in law, and in 2020 was accredited Master of Business Administration. In 1999, Bee was invited to join the ABOP by Ronnie Brunswijk. He participated in the 2000 elections, but he only received 800 votes. In 2010 Bee was elected for the first time to the National Assembly. In 2014, Bee became Chairman of the Party Congress of ABOP. Moengo
Moengo () is a town in Suriname, located in the Marowijne district, between Paramaribo and the border town Albina on the Cottica River. Moengo is also a resort (municipality) in the district of Marowijne. Moengo was the capital of Marowijne District between 1932 and 1945. The current capital is Albina. History Moengo started as a Maroon village on top of a hill overlooking the Cottica River. The settlement was later abandoned due to the difficulty of building houses on the bauxite rich ground. In 1916, Alcoa founded the first bauxite mine in Suriname, and this marks the beginning of the current town. Moengo was designed in 1919 to house 4,000 people. It would become a major centre for the mining and storage of bauxite. Moengo was a segregated town. 2020 Surinamese General Election
General elections were held in Suriname on 25 May 2020. The elections occurred concurrently with an economic crisis in Suriname, as well as the COVID-19 crisis. Electoral system The 51 seats in the National Assembly are elected using party-list proportional representation under the D'Hondt method in ten multi-member constituencies containing between two and seventeen seats. The ten electoral constituencies are coterminous with the ten administrative districts of Suriname. Voters also have the option of casting a preferential vote for one of the candidates on the chosen list in order to increase their place in the list, and the candidate(s) having obtained the most preferential votes in the lists that obtained seats are declared elected. Dewanchandrebhose Sharman (20 February 1965) is a Surinamese doctor and politician. He is a member of the National Assembly for the Progressive Reform Party (VHP). In 2015, he was first elected to the National Assembly by preferential votes. In 2020, Sharman was elected Vice Chairman of the National Assembly in an uncontested election. Biography Sharman was born on 20 February 1965 in the rural village of Paradise, Suriname. After graduating from high school, he went to the boarding school Zaailand Internaat in Paramaribo, and graduated from the Anton de Kom University as a medical doctor at the primary health level.
