Marie-Christine Calleja
Marie-Christine Calleja (born 14 January 1964) is a former professional tennis player from France. Biography Calleja played on the professional tour in the 1980s. Her best performances on the WTA Tour were quarter-final appearances at Brighton International, Brighton in 1983 and Virginia Slims of Nashville, Nashville in 1984. She was a member of the French team which competed at the 1984 Federation Cup (tennis), 1984 Federation Cup, playing the opening singles rubber of three ties, including the quarter-final loss to eventual champions Czechoslovakia. As a doubles player she was a semi-finalist at the 1984 French Open, teaming up with Australia's Charlie Fancutt in the mixed doubles. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the governing body of world tennis, wheelchair tennis, and beach tennis. Charlie Fancutt
Charlie Fancutt (born 17 June 1959) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Career Fancutt won the boys' doubles title at the 1976 Australian Open (partnering Peter McCarthy). He upset Ivan Lendl in the opening round of the 1981 Wimbledon Championships, winning in five sets. At the 1982 Australian Open, Fancutt made the fourth round, where he lost to Johan Kriek. Fancutt made the mixed doubles semi-finals at the 1984 French Open, with Marie-Christine Calleja. He was a singles quarter-finalist at three Grand Prix tournaments during his career, the 1979 Heineken Open and at both Brisbane and Manila in 1981. Brighton International
The Brighton International was a tennis tournament held in Brighton, UK. It was a WTA Tour event from 1978–1995 and an ATP Tour event from 1996-2000, upon the discontinuation of the women's tournament. The women's event was held in October. It was competed on indoor carpet courts and was a WTA Tier II event prior to being removed from the tour. The men's event was held on outdoor clay in Bournemouth from 1996-1999, and in Brighton, on indoor hard courts in 2000. Steffi Graf won the tournament a record 6 times. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court.
