Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Isabelle Demongeot
Isabelle Demongeot (born 18 September 1966) is a former professional tennis player from France, who turned professional on 1 May 1983. She lived in Saint-Tropez in the French Riviera in the early stages of her career and later settled further south in Gassin. Demongeot won her only WTA Tour singles title in Purchase in New York state in 1991. She achieved her best Grand Slam singles performance by reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon in 1986. She won a total of nine WTA Tour doubles titles. Her best Grand Slam doubles performance was reaching the French Open quarter-finals with Nathalie Tauziat of France in 1987 and 1992. Amélie Simone Mauresmo (; born 5 July 1979) is a French former List of WTA number 1 ranked singles tennis players, world No. 1 tennis player and tournament director. Mauresmo won two Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, major singles titles at the 2006 Australian Open – Women's singles, 2006 Australian Open and 2006 Wimbledon Championships – Women's singles, Wimbledon Championships, and also won the silver medal in singles at the Tennis at the 2004 Summer Olympics – Women's singles, 2004 Summer Olympics and the singles title at the 2005 WTA Tour Championships – Singles, 2005 year-end championships. Maïder Laval (born 18 May 1970) is a former professional tennis player from France. Biography An under-18s national champion, Laval competed in the women's singles main draw of every French Open from 1987 to 1991. In the first two years she also played in the juniors and was a girls' doubles finalist at the 1988 French Open, partnering Julie Halard. Laval, who also featured twice at the Australian Open, represented the France Federation Cup team in 1988, for a World Group tie against West Germany. She made her only appearance in the doubles rubber, with Catherine Suire, which they lost in three sets to Isabel Cueto and Eva Pfaff. Julie Halard-Decugis (born 10 September 1970) is a French former professional tennis player. Tennis career Halard-Decugis lived in La Baule, France, during the initial stages of her career and later moved to Pully, Switzerland. She turned professional in 1986. Alexandra Fusai (born 22 November 1973) is a former professional tennis player from France. Fusai was born in Saint-Cloud, Hauts-de-Seine. Starting from September 1989 when she turned professional, Fusai played four tournaments (all of them part of the ITF Women's Circuit) on the international tennis circuit in 1989. Nathalie Fuchs
Nathalie Fuchs (born 3 September 1952) is a French former professional tennis player. A right-handed player from Paris, Fuchs competed on the professional tour in the 1970s. She was the winner of the 1974 Spanish Championships and played 11 ties for the France Federation Cup team. Fuchs made the third round of the French Open on three occasions, including in 1974 when she had an upset win over second seed Virginia Wade. She also partnered with Wanaro N'Godrella in the mixed doubles event in 1974 and reached the semi-finals, which was her best grand slam performance. In the 1975 Federation Cup she remained unbeaten in her singles rubbers up until France's semi-final loss to Czechoslovakia. She had played an important role in the quarter-final win over Great Britain, with her victory against Sue Barker levelling the tie, which was won by France in the doubles.
