Maria Vladimirovna Fominykh (russian: Мария Владимировна Фоминых; born 6 February 1987) is a Russian chess player. Biography Maria Fominykh learned to play chess at the age of seven. She is a two-time winner of Russian Youth Chess Championships: in 2001, in the U14 girls age group and in 2003, in the U16 girls age group. From 1997 to 2004, Fominykh represented Russia at the European Youth Chess Championships and World Youth Chess Championships in different age groups, where she won four medals: gold (in 2003, at the European Youth Chess Championship in the U16 girls age group), silver (in 2001, at the World Youth Chess Championship in the U14 girls age group) and two bronze (in 2002, at the World Youth Chess Championship in the U16 girls age group, and in 2004, at the European Youth Chess Championship in the U18 girls age group). The European Youth Chess Championship is organized by the European Chess Union (ECU) in groups under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 years old. The first tournament was held in 1991, and the under 8 category was introduced in 2007. Until 2002 there was also a tournament for the under 20 group (see European Junior Chess Championship). World Youth Chess Championship
The World Youth Chess Championship is a FIDE-organized worldwide chess competition for boys and girls under the age of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Twelve world champions are crowned every year. Since 2015, the event has been split into "World Cadets Chess Championship" (categories U8, U10 and U12) and "World Youth Chess Championship" (categories U14, U16 and U18). Alexander Morozevich
Alexander Sergeyevich Morozevich (russian: Александр Серге́евич Морозе́вич, translit=Aleksandr Sergéevich Morozévich; born July 18, 1977) is a Russian chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1994. Morozevich is a two-time World Championship candidate (2005, 2007), two-time Russian champion and has represented Russia in seven Chess Olympiads, winning numerous team and board medals. He has won both the Melody Amber (alone 2002, shared 2004, 2006, 2008) and Biel (2003, 2004, 2006) tournaments several times. Morozevich is known for his aggressive and unorthodox playing style. His peak ranking was second in the world in July 2008.
