Margus Hanson
Margus Hanson (born 6 January 1958) is an Estonian politician, who was the Estonian Minister of Defence from 2003 to 2004. He is a member of the Estonian Reform Party. Career Hanson was born in Tartu. Between 1997 and 2003, he was a Vice-Mayor of Tartu. The Minister of Defence ('' Estonian: Kaitseminister'') is the senior minister at the Ministry of Defence (''Kaitseministeerium'') in the Estonian Government. The minister is one of the most important members of the Estonian government, with responsibility for coordinating the governments policies on national defence and the military forces. The defence minister is chosen by the prime minister as a part of the government. When the position was originally established in 1918, it was called the minister of war (''Sõjaminister''). The post was renamed minister of defence on April 1, 1929, but would change back to minister of war in 1937. Though the name of the position, and subsequently the ministry, was changed, the main responsibilities of the position remained virtually same. Estonian Reform Party
The Estonian Reform Party ( et, Eesti Reformierakond) is a liberal political party in Estonia. The party has been led by Kaja Kallas since 2018. It is colloquially known as the "Squirrel Party" ( et, Oravapartei). It was founded in 1994 by Siim Kallas, then-president of the Bank of Estonia, as a split from Pro Patria National Coalition Party. As the Reform Party has participated in most of the government coalitions in Estonia since the mid-1990s, its influence has been significant, especially regarding Estonia's free market and policies of low taxation. The party has been a full member of Liberal International since 1996, having been an observer member between 1994–1996, and a full member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). Tartu
Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia after the Northern European country's political and financial capital, Tallinn. Tartu has a population of 91,407 (as of 2021). The Riigikogu (; from Estonian ''riigi-'', of the state, and ''kogu'', assembly) is the unicameral parliament of Estonia. Sven Mikser
Sven Mikser (born 8 November 1973) is an Estonian politician. Career As a member of the Estonian Centre Party from 2002 to 2003, Mikser served as the minister of defence in the Siim Kallas' cabinet. Mikser was the leader of the Social Democratic Party between 16 October 2010 and 30 May 2015. He has been the Minister of Defence since 26 March 2014 in Taavi Rõivas' first and second cabinets. On 23 November 2016 he assumed the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs in the cabinet of Jüri Ratas. Mikser was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2019. He has since been serving on the Committee on Foreign Affairs and its Subcommittee on Security and Defence. Jaak Jõerüüt
Jaak Jõerüüt (born 9 December 1947 in Tallinn) is an Estonian writer and politician. He was the defense minister of Estonia from November 2004 to 10 October 2005. Jõerüüt first came to political prominence when he became one of the voters for the Estonian restoration of Independence. He was then appointed to be Minister of Defence in November 2004 in Juhan Parts's government. When Parts resigned in April 2005, Jaak Jõerüüt was one of the few ministers retained in Andrus Ansip's government. In September 2005, Jõerüüt resigned voluntarily over the so-called "T-Shirt Affair".
