Marg Cutcliffe
Margaret "Marg" Cutcliffe (born February 28, 1955, in Springhill, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian curler from Fall River, Nova Scotia. Career Cutcliffe is a three-time provincial women's champion, winning the Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 1985, 1987 and 2017. Her wins in 1985 and 1987 were playing third for Virginia Jackson and in the 2017 Scotties, she played third for Mary Mattatall. These three wins earned those teams the right to represent Nova Scotia at their respective national championships, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. At the 1985 Scott Tournament of Hearts, the Jackson-led Nova Scotia rink finished the round robin with an 8–3 record, only to lose in the semifinal. At the 1987 Scott Tournament of Hearts, the team was less successful, finishing with a 3–8 record, in 11th place. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends. The player can induce a curved path, described as ''curl'', by causing the stone to slowly rotate as it slides. The 2004 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship was held January 10–18, 2004 at the McIntyre Curling Club in Timmins, Ontario. The 2004 Mixed was the last Canadian Mixed Championship to be held in the same calendar year as it was billed as, until 2021. World Curling Tour
The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Penny LaRocque
Penny LaRocque (born ca. 1943 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian retired curler from Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is a former Canadian champion skip, and world championship bronze medallist. She retired from curling in 2007. Career LaRocque has won five provincial women's championships, five provincial mixed titles, and seven provincial seniors titles. Her first provincial title came in 1974, playing second for the Joyce Myers rink, and went 2-7 at the 1974 Macdonald Lassies Championship.. Her second title came in 1978, where she skipped the Nova Scotia rink to a 2nd place finish at the 1978 Macdonald Lassies Championship. She also won the 1979 and 1983 provincial titles as skip, and the 1986 title, playing third for Colleen Jones. LaRocque won her only national title at the 1983 Scott Tournament of Hearts.
