Marek Bílek (born 7 January 1973) is a retired Czech discus thrower. He was born in Prague and represented the club ''Dukla Prague''. The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disk (mathematics), disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an classical antiquity, ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue ''Discobolus''. Although not part of the current pentathlon, it was one of the events of the Ancient Olympic pentathlon, ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least 708 BC, and it is part of the modern decathlon. Martin Bílek
Martin Bílek (7 January 1973 – 1 August 2000) was a Czech shot putter. He finished eighth at the 1992 World Junior Championships. He competed at the 1994 and 1996 European Indoor Championships without reaching the final. He became Czech indoor champion in 1995. After failing to reach the 1997 World Championships he retired. The men's discus throw was an event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. There were 40 competitors from 30 nations. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The final was held on July 31, 1996. The event was won by Lars Riedel of Germany, the nation's first victory in the men's discus throw (though both East and West Germany had previously won).
