Pony Up
Pony Up is an all-woman Canadian indie pop band based in Montreal, Quebec. They are known for their guitar-and-keyboard based upbeat music and their personal and sometimes sexually suggestive lyrics. History Pony Up! was formed on New Year's Eve 2002. The members were bassist Lisa Smith, drummer Lindsay Wills, keyboardist Laura Wills, guitarist Sarah Moundroukas, and vocalist Camilla Wynne Ingr. The group released their debut, self-titled EP, ''Pony Up!'' (which included their song "Matthew Modine") in 2005, via Steve Aoki's label, Dim Mak. In April 2006, Pony Up released their first full-length album, '' Make Love to the Judges with Your Eyes''. To promote their debut, the band toured Australia in the summer of 2006, where their single "The Truth About Cats and Dogs (Is That They Die)" would later be voted No. 47 on Triple J's Hottest 100. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. Dim Mak Records is an independent, Los Angeles-based record label, events company, and lifestyle brand founded by Steve Aoki in 1996. The label has released music under the genres of punk, indie rock, hardcore, hip hop, and electronic dance music. History Early years Steve Aoki started Dim Mak Records in 1996 at the age of 19, out of his college apartment at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The label's first release was a 7-inch record by a hardcore punk band called Stickfigurecarousel. The name ''Dim Mak'' is a reference to Bruce Lee's Death Touch martial art technique.
