Makarivka, Volnovakha Raion
Makarivka ( uk, Макарівка, russian: Макаровка, Makarovka) is a village in Volnovakha Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. During the Russian invasion in 2022, the village was captured early in the war by Russian forces, but Ukrainian forces retook it on 11 June 2023 during the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive. Geography The village is on the left bank of the Mokri Yaly river, with the settlements of Blahodatne and Storozheve to the north, and Staromaiorske and Urozhaine to the south. Demographics According to the 2001 census, the village had a population of 258 people, of whom 82.56% said that their native language was Ukrainian and 17.44% Russian. Red Army

Mokri Yaly
The Mokri Yaly ( ukr, Мокрі Яли; russian: Мокрые Ялы) is a river in western Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. From its headwaters in Volnovakha, it flows roughly west and northwest to its confluence with the Vovcha river, which forms part of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast boundary. Etymology The name of the river roughly translates to 'wet shores', combining Ukrainian ''mokri'' 'wet' (plural) and Urum 'shore'. Compare the names of the small tributary Sukha Yala 'dry shore' (feminine singular) and the sister tributary of the Vovcha Sukhi Yaly 'dry shores'. The river was known as Elkuvaty in older chronicles. Geography The river is 147 km long. Urozhaine ( uk, Урожайне, ; russian: Урожайное, Urozhaynoye; both ) is a rural settlement in Volnovakha Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
