Mai Murdmaa
Mai-Ester Murdmaa (born 31 March 1938) is an Estonian choreographer, ballet dancer, ballet master and director. Murdmaa was born in Tallinn. Her older brother Ivar Murdmaa is a marine geologist and her younger brother Allan Murdmaa was an architect. Her sister Kai Murdmaa is a physicist. In 1956 she graduated from the Tallinn Ballet School. In 1964 she graduated from GITIS in ballet master speciality. From 1956 until 1960, she was a dancer at the Estonia Theatre, after that, she was the ballet master (1964–1973) and principal ballet master (1974–2001) at the Estonia Theatre. Murdmaa was married to Latvian pianist and music professor Valdis Jancis until his death in 2014. Their song is composer and musician Rainer Jancis and animator and musician Kaspar Jancis. Allan Murdmaa
Allan Murdmaa (4 August 1934 – 15 November 2009) was an Estonian architect. Murdmaa was born in Tallinn. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Architecture in 1958. From 1958 to 1960 Allan Murdmaa worked in the state design office Eesti Projekt. From 1960 to 1962 he worked as the chief artist of Tallinn. From 1963 to 1968 and 1970 to 1976 Allan Murdmaa worked in the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR (today's Estonian Academy of Arts). From 1976 to 1981 and 1987 to 1992 he worked in the state design office Eesti Maaehitusprojekt. Architectural production of Allan Murdmaa consists of numerous standardized projects for apartment buildings, schools, cinemas and many interior designs. The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) (russian: Российский институт театрального искусства – ГИТИС) is the largest and oldest independent theatrical arts school in Russia. Located in Moscow, the school was founded on 22 September 1878 as the Shostakovsky Music School. Estonia Theatre
Estonia Theatre is an historic building in Tallinn, Estonia, which houses the Estonian National Opera and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. The original Jugendstil building was designed by Finnish architects Armas Lindgren and Wivi Lönn. It was built as a national effort with the leadership of Estonia society in 1913 and was opened to the public on 24 August. At the time, it was the largest building in Tallinn. The theatre was heavily damaged in the Soviet air raid on Tallinn on 9 March 1944. It was reconstructed in a classical and Stalinist style, and reopened in 1947.In 1946, it served as the home of the newly created Tallinn Ballet School and was the location of the debut of one of the graduates of the school's first class, Helmi Puur. Kaspar Jancis (born 8 May 1975) is an Estonian director of animated films, musician, composer. Kaspar Jancis was born in Tallinn as the son of Latvian pianist and Estonian ballet master, dancer and screenwriter Mai Murdmaa. Jancis' brother is a professional musician.
