Mai Jia
Jiang Benhu (; born 1964), better known by his pen name Mai Jia, is a Chinese novelist. He also served as the president of Zhejiang Writers Association and vice president of the Zhejiang Literature and Art Association. Biography Jiang was born in Fuyang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 1964. He was drafted into the People's Liberation Army and served for 17 years. Jiang graduated from People's Liberation Army Foreign Language College in 1983, where he majored in wireless radio. He started to publish works in 1986. Jiang was accepted to People's Liberation Army Arts College in 1987 and graduated in 1991, majoring in literature. In 1997, Jiang worked in Chengdu Satellite TV as an editor. In 2008, Jiang was transferred from Chengdu to Hangzhou. In December 2010, Jiang was elected the vice president of the Zhejiang Literature and Art Association. Decoded (novel)
''Decoded'' () is a 2002 novel by Mai Jia. It tells the story of a brilliant Chinese mathematician recruited to work as a cryptographer for his country. It is set primarily in the period surrounding World War II and the continuing turmoil in China following the war. It is Mai Jia's first novel, as well as his first book to be translated into English. The book was adapted into a 2016 TV series of the same name. In 2017, Jake Kerridge, writing in ''The Daily Telegraph'', declared it to be one of "the 20 best spy novels of all time." Plot summary ''Decoded'' tells the story of Rong Jinzhen, an orphaned genius. Olivia Milburn (born 1976) is a sinologist, author and literary translator who specialises in Chinese cultural history and in Chinese minority groups. Life and career Milburn is a professor at the School of Chinese, Hong Kong University. Milburn grew up in a multilingual family living in eight different countries, and became interested in Chinese literature as a teenager, after reading a translation of the ''Dream of the Red Chamber''. She completed a bachelor's degree at St Hilda's College, University of Oxford in 1998, a master's at Downing College, University of Cambridge in 1999, and a doctorate in classical Chinese at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in 2003. Fuyang District
() is one of ten urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, East China.
