Mahant Raja Digvijay Das
Raja Mahant Digvijay Das was the last ruler of the princely state of Nandgaon in the present-day Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, India. Early life Digvijay Das was born on 25 April 1933 to Sarveshvara Das, the ruler of Nandgaon State. He completed his primary education from Rajkumar College, Raipur, then went to London for further education. He travelled around Europe at this time. He succeeded to the throne of Nandgaon State, aged seven, upon the death of his father in 1940. Sports Digvijay Das was dedicated to sports. He established the Lalbagh Club and was founder president of the All-India Hockey Association. Digvijay Stadium in Rajnandgaon is named after him. Education Digvijay Das was educated person and realised the need of higher education for children. He donated his fort and of land to his educational department. Mahant Raja Sarveshwar Das
Mahant Raja Sarveshwar Das (1906-1940) was the ruler of the princely state of Nandgaon in the present-day Rajnandgaon District of Chhattisgarh, India. Early life Sarveshwar Das completed his primary education from Rajkumar College, Raipur then he went to London for higher education. He succeeded to the throne of Nandgaon State in 1927 after the death of Mahant Raja Rajendra Das. It was a convoluted succession. Mahant Raja Balram Das had died childless, at which time his widow, queen Suryamukhi, adopted Rajendra Das as her son and the next ruler of Nandgaon. The adoptee died soon after and Shyamcharan, father of Sarveshwar Das, was selected to be the next ruler of Nandgaon by family members and disciples. But he was so old that he was not able to govern and Sarveshwar Das became de facto ruler. A princely state (also called native state or Indian state) was a nominally sovereign entity of the British Raj, British Indian Empire that was not directly governed by the British, but rather by an Indian ruler under a form of indirect rule, subject to a subsidiary alliance and the suzerainty or paramountcy of the the Crown, British crown. Rajkumar College (or RKC) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, is one of the oldest K-12 foundations of India. It was founded by Sir Andrew Fraser in the year 1882 at Jabalpur. The School functioned at Jabalpur till 1892 and thereafter, shifted to its present site at Raipur in 1894, with boarding house facilities. Its estate is spread over 125 acres. Digvijay Stadium
Digvijay Stadium (''Hindi'': दिग्विजय स्टेडियम) is an international multi-sports stadium in Rajnandgaon, India. The ground is mainly used for organizing matches of football, cricket and other sports as well. The stadium was later demolished for major renovations; and then was inaugurated to public on October 4, 2018.
