Magical Kenya Open
The Kenya Open, titled as the Magical Kenya Open for sponsorship reasons, is a professional golf tournament in Kenya founded in 1967. History The Kenya Open was an associate event on the Far East Circuit in 1967 and 1968, after which it became a cornerstone of the emerging Safari Circuit – a collection of tournaments initially in Kenya and Zambia, and then later in Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe. The European Tour, who had taken over running of the Safari Tour in the late 1970s, began to expand globally through the 1980s and those events formally became part of the second tier Challenge Tour in 1991. With the exception of the 1994 event, the Kenya Open remained on the Challenge Tour schedule until 2019 when it was elevated to the elite European Tour schedule. Nairobi ( ) is the capital and largest city of Kenya. Christy O'Connor Jnr
Christy O'Connor Jnr (born Christopher O'Connor; 19 August 1948 – 6 January 2016) was an Irish professional golfer. He is best known for defeating American Fred Couples at the 1989 Ryder Cup, helping Europe secure the trophy. Early life O'Connor was born in Knocknacarra, Ireland in 1948. Knocknacarra is a village in Salthill that is within County Galway. He was the son of Elizabeth (née Noone) and John O'Connor. The family farmed cattle and pigs near a golf club. 2019 European Tour
The 2019 European Tour was the 48th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 11th edition of the Race to Dubai. The Race to Dubai was won by Spain's Jon Rahm, who was also named Golfer of the Year. Scotland's Robert MacIntyre was the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. 2020 European Tour
The 2020 European Tour was the 49th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 12th edition of the Race to Dubai. The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the season, with many tournaments being rescheduled or cancelled. All four major championships were affected; The Open Championship was cancelled, and the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open and PGA Championship were moved to dates much later in the year. After a three-month hiatus following the Qatar Masters in early March, the tour resumed with a much changed schedule in July. Kurt Kitayama
Kurt Shun Kitayama (born January 14, 1993) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. On the European Tour, he won the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in December 2018 and the Oman Open in March 2019. Early life Kitayama was born in Chico, California, some 87 miles north of Sacramento, and graduated from Chico High School in 2011. Although his height was just 5–6, he was the Senior co-captain and starting point guard on the basketball team, while leading the Panthers to a 27–2 record and the 2011 California Northern Section Title. The 2021 European Tour was the 50th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 13th and final edition of the Race to Dubai. The Race to Dubai was won by Collin Morikawa, becoming the first American player to do so. Matti Schmid was named Rookie of the Year. Changes for 2021 Following a heavily disrupted 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a new look to the calendar announced in December 2020, with tournaments being scheduled in groups based on location. Christopher Herlihy "Hurly" Long (born 21 July 1995) is a German professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. He won the 2020 Italian Challenge Open. Amateur career Long attended Texas Tech University from 2015 to 2018, having been a freshman at the University of Oregon in 2014/15. He won the 2017 Carmel Cup after a playoff, which included a second-round 61 to set a new course record at Pebble Beach. Thriston Lawrence (born 3 December 1996) is a South African professional golfer who currently plays on the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. He claimed his maiden victory on the European Tour in the weather-shortened Joburg Open in 2021 and also won the 2022 Investec South African Open Championship. Aaron Cockerill (born 17 April 1992) is a Canadian professional golfer and European Tour player. He was runner-up at the 2022 Magical Kenya Open, as well as the 2023 ISPS Handa Championship in Japan, losing in a playoff to Lucas Herbert. Amateur career Cockerill played golf at Stonewall Collegiate High School, where he was a four-time zone champion and served as team captain for three years. The 2022 European Tour, titled as the 2022 DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, is the 51st season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 1st edition of the DP World Tour Rankings. It is the first season of the tour under a title sponsorship agreement with DP World, that was announced in November 2021. Schedule The following table lists official events during the 2022 season. Many tournaments had been confirmed independently ahead of the official announcement in November 2021, when the majority of the tournaments were confirmed along with the DP World title sponsorship agreement. Maurice Bembridge
Maurice Bembridge (born 21 February 1945) is an English golfer. He won the 1969 News of the World Match Play, the 1971 Dunlop Masters and won six times on the European Tour from its formation in 1972. He also won tournaments around the world, including the Kenya Open three times. He played in the Ryder Cup four successive times from 1969 to 1975 and represented England twice in the World Cup. At the 1974 Masters Tournament, Bembridge tied the course record with a 64 in the final round, lifting him into a tie for 9th place.
