Magic Christian (magician)
Christian Stelzel, known professionally as Magic Christian, is an Austrian professional magician and author. Christian was born on July 17, 1945, and presently lives in Vienna. He studied industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Christian has received many awards, starting with winning first prize at a competition in Weymouth, 1967, and several awards from all over the continent followed. In 1973 he won the first prize in the category of Manipulation at FISM, the world championships in magic. An accomplishment he repeated at FISM 1976 and FISM 1979 ''(the later time, also winning the category of Invention)''. In 1989, Christian became president of the Magic Club of Vienna, and in 2005 the Academy of Magical Art at The Magic Castle, Hollywood, awarded him the "Performing Fellowship" for his performances. The University of Applied Arts Vienna (german: Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien, or informally just ''Die Angewandte'') is an arts university and institution of higher education in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Weymouth, Dorset
Weymouth is a seaside town in Dorset, on the English Channel coast of England. Situated on a sheltered bay at the mouth of the River Wey, south of the county town of Dorchester, Weymouth had a population of 53,427 in 2021. The Magic Club of Vienna, or the Magischer Klub Wien as it is referred to in local circles, is the oldest association of magicians in Austria. It was founded in 1908 and has become a welcome meeting point for amateur and professional magicians. During World War II the Magic Club of Vienna became a regional branch of the German Magic Circle. In 1958 and 1976 the "International Federation of Magic Societies" ( FISM) entrusted the club to organize the World Congress of Magic in Vienna. The Magic Castle
The Magic Castle is a clubhouse for magicians and magic enthusiasts, as well as the clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts. It is in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, California and it bills itself as "the most unusual private club in the world". Only members and their guests are allowed entrance, though courtesy invitations can be obtained. During a typical evening there are numerous magic shows and historic displays, as well as a full-service dining room and numerous bars. The atmosphere is reminiscent of classic night club days, and a strict dress code is enforced. Once a private residence, the Castle was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1989. Wiener Spielkartenfabrik Ferd. Piatnik & Söhne, commonly referred to as Piatnik, is an Austrian playing card and board game manufacturing company based in Vienna. History The company was founded in 1824 by the card manufacturer Anton Moser (1784–1842) in Vienna's 7th district. Upon his death, his professional colleague the Hungarian-born Ferdinand Piatnik (1819–1885) took over in 1843, marrying Moser's widow a few years later. Piatnik's three sons joined the ranks in 1882 adding their names to their father's company name. Ferdinand died in 1885, leaving the successful business to his sons and his widow. Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser
Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser (19 June 1806 – 11 March 1875) was an Austrian-Hungarian magician and illusionist. He used the moniker "Dr. Hofzinser" as a stage name after retiring in 1865. Ottokar Fischer spread the story that upon his death in 1875, Hofzinser's wife destroyed many of his manuscripts to honor her husband's instructions though there is some dispute about this. Many of his mechanical plans and card-handling methods may forever remain a secret. Several of Hofzinser's pupils preserved portions of their teacher's notes and instructions. There are still about 270 manuscripts and letters of his own and of his pupils in various collections.
