MMCinemas
MMCinemas was a cineplex company based in Monterrey, Mexico. It operated 87 cineplexes, primarily in northern Mexico, with more than 900 screens at the time of its merger with Cinemex in 2008. History MMCinemas was established in 1981 by Grupo Multimedios, a Monterrey-based broadcasting company, when the company opened its first movie theater in that city. By 1994, the chain owned 14 multiplexes with a total of 47 screens in northern Mexico. In 2006, Multimedios sold MMCinemas to Latin America Movie Theatres (LAMT), a joint venture of private equity firm Southern Cross Group and Morgan Stanley. In February 2008, Germán Larrea Mota Velasco, owner of Grupo México, reached an agreement to acquire 80 percent of LAMT through holding company Entretenimiento GM de México. Grupo Multimedios
Grupo Multimedios is a Mexican media conglomerate with holdings in broadcast television, radio, publishing and entertainment. The company is headquartered in Monterrey. History Multimedios was founded in 1940 when Jesús Dionisio González acquired Monterrey radio station XEX, where he had formerly worked, for 12,500 pesos. After World War II, the Mexican government requested the XEX callsign to build a national clear-channel station, and González selected the XEAW call letters, which had formerly belonged to a station in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Cinemex is a Mexican chain of cinemas. It operates multiplexes in cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Toluca, Cd. Juarez, Leon, Tijuana, Mexicali, Puebla and other Mexican cities. Multiplex (movie Theater)
A multiplex is a movie theater complex with multiple screens within a single complex. They are usually housed in a specially designed building. Sometimes, an existing venue undergoes a renovation where the existing auditoriums are split into smaller ones, or more auditoriums are added in an extension or expansion of the building. The largest of these complexes can sit thousands of people and are sometimes referred to as a megaplex.
