M45 (Durban)
The M45 also named Queen Nandi Drive is a short metropolitan route in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, South Africa. The road connects Briardene in Durban North to KwaMashu. History The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality decided to construct a new link road, the Queen Nandi Drive between the R102 North Coast Rd and KwaMashu. A joint venture partnership between eThekwini and Tongaat Hulett to develop and sell the sites was formed in June 2000, and construction began on the Queen Nandi Drive along with the Interchange on the N2 commenced in 2002. Route The M45 begins at the intersection with the R102 Chris Hani Road (North Coast Rd) in Briardene and curves through hills in a north-westerly direction for the entire route. It passes through Kenville before entering Newlands East at Riverhorse Valley and crossing the N2 highway at the exit 174 off-ramp. eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality is a metropolitan municipality created in 2000, that includes the city of Durban, South Africa and surrounding towns. eThekwini is one of the 11 districts of KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The majority of its 3,442,361 people speak Zulu. It was formed from seven formerly independent local councils and tribal land. Etymology In an 1859 Zulu grammar book, Bishop Colenso asserted that the root word ' means "bay of the sea" taken from the Thabethe tribes clan name Mtheku which were the leaders of the Nguni people. Newlands East is a township located 17 km north-west of Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Geography Newlands East is bordered by Newlands West to the west and south, Durban North to the east and KwaMashu to the north The main access roads in and around Newlands East is the N2 highway, M45 Queen Nandi Drive, M5 Dumisani Makhaye Drive and M21 Inanda Road. KwaMashu
KwaMashu is a township (South Africa), township north of Durban, South Africa. The name is in honour of Sir Marshall Campbell and means ''Place of Marshall''. R102 (South Africa)
The R102 is a Regional Route in South Africa. It is the route designation for all old sections of the N2, thus it is a discontinuous road that resumes in areas where a new N2 has been constructed. Route Western Cape and Eastern Cape In the Cape Town area, the R102 starts in the Central Business District and runs through Woodstock, Maitland, Goodwood and Parow before it reaches Bellville. From Bellville, it turns in a southeasterly direction and goes on the outskirts of the city through Kuils River, Eerste River and onwards to Somerset West where it merges with the existing N2. At Mossel Bay it divides to the east again, passing through all the towns between there and George. The M5 is a long metropolitan route in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, South Africa. It starts in KwaMashu in the north-western townships of Durban. It passes through the townships of KwaMashu, Newlands East, Newlands West, Ntuzuma and KwaDabeka.
