M. V. Nikesh Kumar
M. V. Nikesh Kumar (born 7 October 1973) is an Indian journalist from the state of Kerala. He is the managing director of Reporter TV, a Malayalam news channel. As a Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate, he lost to K. M. Shaji of Indian Union Muslim League in the 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election from the Azhikode Constituency, by 2284 votes. He holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. He started his career as a news reporter in Asianet, later moved onto Indiavision, anchoring various programmes based on contemporary social and political issues. He anchored ''Newsnight'' every day at 09:00 PM. At Reporter TV, he anchors ''Editor's Hour'', a debate show which discusses mostly regional politics. Mar Ivanios College is an autonomous educational institution situated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held on 16 May 2016 to elect 140 MLAs to the 14th Kerala Legislative Assembly. Voter turnout was 77.53%, up from 75.12% in the previous election. The result was declared on 19 May 2016. The Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), won the election, defeating the incumbent United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Indian National Congress (INC), which could only win 47 seats in the election. Pinarayi Vijayan was sworn in as the Chief Minister on 25 May. Background The tenure of the members of the Legislative Assembly in the state was to end on 31 May 2016. Indiavision
Indiavision was an Indian pay television news channel based at Kochi, Kerala, India. It broadcast in Malayalam. History Indiavision was launched on 14 July 2003. The network launched a second channel, YES Indiavision (Youth, Entertainment & Sports) on 14 February 2007. Due to internal problems, it stopped broadcasting on 31 March 2015. The company was in the news twice in 2014 when its editorial team went on strike over non-payment of salaries. Tax sleuths conducted a raid at the channel's main office in Kochi and its director, Jamaludeen Farooqi, was arrested on 4 March 2015. According to reports, the channel hadn't paid service tax to the tune of almost ₹9 crore. Communist Marxist Party
Communist Marxist Party (CMP) was a political party in Kerala. The party was founded in 1986 when CPI(M) leader M. V. Raghavan was expelled from the CPI(M) due to a grave difference of opinion regarding the formation of alliances with the IUML. His support for forming a united front with non-secular parties such as the Muslim League in order to take on alliances led by the INC was ultimately rejected by the CPI(M) leadership. He was subsequently expelled from the Party. In 2011 assembly election of Kerala, CMP fielded three candidates but could not win any seat.
