Azhikode (State Assembly Constituency)
Azhikode State assembly constituency is one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies in Kerala state in southern India. It is also one of the 7 state legislative assembly constituencies included in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency. As of the 2021 assembly elections, the current MLA is K. V. Sumesh of CPI(M). The Kerala Legislative Assembly, popularly known as the Kerala Niyamasabha, is the State Assembly of Kerala, one of the 28 states in India. The Assembly is formed by 140 elected representatives. Each elected member represents one of the 140 constituencies within the borders of Kerala and is referred to as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). History In 1956, the State of Kerala was formed on linguistic basis, merging Cochin, Malabar, and Travancore regions, and the Kasaragod region of South Canara. 1991 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The 1991 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held on 18 June 1991 to elect members to the Niyamasabha. The incumbent LDF government, which was in power from 1987, decided to seek a fresh mandate one year ahead of the expiry of its term. The decision was prompted by the announcement of the elections to the Lok Sabha and the Front's good showing in the elections to the local bodies held in the previous year. The elections saw the LDF losing power and the UDF returning to power after four years. K. 1987 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The elections to the Eighth Kerala Assembly were held on  March 23, 1987. The UDF and the LDF were the two major political  fronts in the arena. The UDF had the INC(I),  IUML, KC(J), KC(M), NDP (P), SRP(S) and the RSP(S) as its constituents. The LDF consisted of the CPI(M), CPI, RSP, IC(S), Janata Party and the Lok Dal.  Background Kerala saw polarisation and splits of political forces since the formation of the United Democratic Front  Ministry on May 24, 1982. The merger of the two factions of the Indian National Congress, the INC (I) and the INC (A), in November 1982 marked the beginning of the political polarization. 1982 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The elections to the Seventh Kerala Assembly were held on May 19, 1982. Background After the election of 1980, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) formed a government led by E. K. Nayanar. By 20 October 1981, LDF lost their majority in the Assembly when the Congress (A), the Kerala Congress (M) and the Janatha (Gopalan) withdrew support for the government to join the UDF. E.K.Nayanar recommended to the Governor to dissolve the assembly and impose President's rule on 21 October 1981 which led to a mid-term election in 1982. Use of electronic voting machines The election of 1982 has historic significance, as it is the first time Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were used in the country. EVM was used in 50 booths of the Paravoor constituency of Ernakulam district. But it was later challenged in the High Court of Kerala, but the plea was dismissed. 1980 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
Elections were held on 1980 January 3 and 5 to elect members to the sixth Niyamasabha. This election saw the formation of two pre-poll alliances, viz. LDF and UDF, most of whose constituent parties were part of the erstwhile United Front. CPI(M)-led LDF to win the election, after winning 93 seats altogether. E. K. Chadayan Govindan
Chadayan Govindan (12 May 1929, Kambil in Kannur district – 9 September 1998) was a Communist politician and a former minister of Kerala, South India. He was the secretary of the Kerala State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) until his death on 9 September 1998. Earlier life Chadayan Govindan was born on 12 May 1929 in Narath Panchayat in Kannur. His father was Kunhappa and his mother was Kalyani. His family was very poor and his school education had to be stopped in the fifth class. He started working as a weaver from young age. Political life Govindan became a party cell member in 1948. He resisted the physical attacks goondas very boldly and this gave him the image of a fire brand worker. Valappattanam

Chirakkal, Kannur
Chirakkal is a census town in Kannur district in the state of Kerala, India. It is a suburb of Kannur city of about 7 km away. History The Kovilakam ("Palace" in the Malayalam language) of Kolathiris, the erstwhile ruling dynasty is situated in Chirakkal.
