M. J. Nolan
M. J. Nolan (born 25 January 1951) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny (Dáil constituency), Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1982 to 1997 and 2002 to 2011. He also served as a Seanad Éireann, Senator from May 1982 to November 1982 and 2001 to 2002. Nolan was born in Waterford in 1951, but is a native of Bagenalstown, Muine Bheag, County Carlow. He was educated at De La Salle school in Muine Bheag and at Mount St. Joseph's in Roscrea, County Tipperary. He first held political office in 1973, when he became a member of Muine Bheag Town Council, a position which he held until 1985. He also served on Carlow County Council from 1979 until 2003, and in May 1982 he was Nominated members of Seanad Éireann, nominated by the Taoiseach, Charles Haughey, to the 16th Seanad. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parliament'' (MP) or '' Member of Congress'' used in other countries. The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". Carlow County Council
Carlow County Council ( ga, Comhairle Chontae Cheatharlach) is the authority responsible for local government in County Carlow, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The council has 18 elected members. John Browne (Fine Gael Politician)
John Browne (1 October 1936 – 27 March 2019) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1989 to 2002. He served as a Senator from 1983 to 1987. Biography A former teacher, he was appointed to Seanad Éireann as Senator in 1983 by the Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald, but he was not returned again after Fine Gael lost power following the 1987 general election. Browne was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael TD at the 1989 general election and retained his seat at the 1992 and 1997 general elections, before retiring at the 2002 general election. Jim Gibbons (Irish Politician)
James M. Gibbons (3 August 1924 – 20 December 1997) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as Minister for Agriculture from 1970 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979, Minister for Defence from 1969 to 1970 and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance from 1965 to 1969. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1957 to 1981 and February 1982 to November 1982. He also served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1973 to 1977. Early life Gibbons was a native of Bonnettsrath, County Kilkenny. Gibbons was born into a very political family. 2007 Irish General Election
The 2007 Irish general election took place on Thursday, 24 May after the dissolution of the 29th Dáil by the President on 30 April, at the request of the Taoiseach. The general election took place in 43 parliamentary constituencies throughout Ireland for 166 seats in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of parliament, with a revision of constituencies since the last election under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2005. While Fine Gael gained 20 seats, Fianna Fáil remained the largest party. The election was considered a success for Fianna Fáil; however, Fianna Fáil's junior coalition partners in the 29th Dáil, the Progressive Democrats, lost six of their eight seats. This is a list of the members of the 21st Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Oireachtas (legislature) of Ireland. Unless otherwise indicated, these Senators were elected or appointed in 1997, after the 1997 general election and served until the close of poll for the 22nd Seanad at the end of July 2002. John James McGuinness (born 15 March 1955) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency since the 1997 general election. He was appointed Chair of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach in April 2016. Taoiseach
The Taoiseach is the head of government, or prime minister, of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The office is appointed by the president of Ireland upon the nomination of Dáil Éireann (the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's national legislature) and the office-holder must retain the support of a majority in the Dáil to remain in office. Seán Power (born 14 October 1960) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kildare South (Dáil constituency), Kildare South constituency. Power was born in Caragh, near Naas in County Kildare and was educated locally at the Congregation of Christian Brothers, Christian Brothers School in Naas. Liam Fitzgerald
Liam Joseph Fitzgerald (born 1 September 1949) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician. Fitzgerald was born in Doon, County Limerick and educated at the Christian Brothers school in Doon, St Patrick's College, Dublin and University College Dublin. He worked as a teacher before becoming involved in politics. He was elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1981 general election as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Dublin North-East constituency. He lost his seat at the February 1982 election but regained it in the November 1982 election.
