M.C. Lyte
Lana Michele Moorer (born October 11, 1970), better known by her stage name MC Lyte, is an American rapper, DJ, actress and entrepreneur. Considered one of the pioneers of female rap, Lyte first gained fame in the late 1980s, becoming the first solo female rapper to release a full album with 1988's critically acclaimed ''Lyte as a Rock''. She released a total of eight solo studio albums (2015's ''Legend'' being her latest) and an EP with Almost September. With songs like " Cha Cha Cha", " Paper Thin", " 10% Dis", " Ruffneck" (with which she became the first female solo rapper to achieve a gold certification) and "Poor Georgie", MC Lyte became a pioneering figure in hip hop and has been cited as an influence to many female rap figures. Xscape (band)
Xscape is an American girl group from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 1991 by Kandi Burruss, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, LaTocha Scott, Tamera Coggins-Wynn, and Tamika Scott. The following year Coggins-Wynn left the group and Xscape became a quartet. They were discovered by Jermaine Dupri who signed the group to his So So Def label. "Ruffneck" is a hip hop song recorded by American rapper MC Lyte. It was published on May 27, 1993, as the lead single from her fourth studio album, ''Ain't No Other'' (1993). The song was produced by Aqil Davidson (of Wreckx-n-Effect) with Walter "Mucho" Scott, who along with Lyte have songwriting credits. 10% Dis is a single from MC Lyte's album ''Lyte as a Rock'' produced by the hip hop duo Audio Two, who are also credited as songwriters. The song was a diss track to then-Hurby Azor associate Antoinette, who she accuses of having ''"stole the beat"'' to the Audio Two hit Top Billin'. Cha Cha Cha is the lead single from MC Lyte's second album ''Eyes on This''. Produced by King Of Chill, who also has songwriting credits, it was released on September 8, 1989. The song stayed 18 weeks on the recently created Billboard Hot Rap Singles and became one of the first songs to peak at 1 on that chart, staying there for two weeks in December 1989. Although MC Lyte had already reached #1 on Rap chart a few months earlier with the collaborative single "Self Destruction", this was the first time that a woman had achieved it as the lead artist.
