Ruffneck (song)
"Ruffneck" is a hip hop song recorded by American rapper MC Lyte. It was published on May 27, 1993, as the lead single from her fourth studio album, ''Ain't No Other'' (1993). The song was produced by Aqil Davidson (of Wreckx-n-Effect) with Walter "Mucho" Scott, who along with Lyte have songwriting credits. The song peaked at 35 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in October 1993 and the third 1 single on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs of her career. It also reached 67 on the UK Singles Chart. On November 30, 1993 "Ruffneck" became the first work by a female solo rapper to be certified gold by the RIAA. With this single Lyte also received her first Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 36th Grammy Awards in February 1994, but lost to Dr. Dre's "Let Me Ride". Lana Michele Moorer (born October 11, 1970), better known by her stage name MC Lyte, is an American rapper, DJ, actress and entrepreneur. Considered one of the pioneers of female rap, Lyte first gained fame in the late 1980s, becoming the first solo female rapper to release a full album with 1988's critically acclaimed ''Lyte as a Rock''. She released a total of eight solo studio albums (2015's ''Legend'' being her latest) and an EP with Almost September. Anthony Peaks (December 26, 1964 – January 22, 2010), better known as Apache, was an American rapper. Apache emerged from New Jersey in the late 1980s as a front man for the Flavor Unit, a hip-hop group. He first appeared on the Flavor Unit album, ''The 45 King Presents The Flavor Unit'', in 1990. Apart from his individual records, he also featured on the albums of Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, 2Pac and Fat Joe. Apache signed with Tommy Boy/Warner Bros.
