Luca Roman
Luca Roman (born 10 December 1985) is an Italian Olympic eventing rider. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where he finished 40th in the individual and 9th in the team competition. Roman also participated at the 2015 European Eventing Championships, where he placed 6th with the Italian team in the team event and finished 15th individually. His brother Pietro also participated at the 2016 Olympics. Eventing
Eventing (also known as three day eventing or horse trials) is an equestrian event where a single horse and rider combine and compete against other competitors across the three disciplines of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. This event has its roots in a comprehensive cavalry test that required mastery of several types of riding. The competition may be run as a one-day event (ODE), where all three events are completed in one day (dressage, followed by show jumping and then the cross-country phase) or a three-day event (3DE), which is more commonly now run over four days, with dressage on the first two days, followed by cross-country the next day and then show jumping in reverse order on the final day. The individual eventing in equestrian at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics was held at National Equestrian Center from 6 - 9 August. Competition format The team and individual eventing competitions used the same scores. Eventing consisted of a dressage test, a cross-country test, and a jumping test. The jumping test had two rounds. After the first jumping round, the teams results were determined. Both jumping rounds counted towards the individual results. Only the top 25 horse and rider pairs (including ties for 25th) after the first jumping round (adding the three components) competed in the second jumping round. However, each nation was limited to a maximum of three pairs qualifying for the second (final) jumping round. The 2015 European Eventing Championship was held from September 10 to September 13, 2015 at Blair Castle, Scotland, UK. The competition is also used as qualification to the 2016 Summer Olympics.
