Equestrian At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Individual Eventing
The individual eventing in equestrian at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics was held at National Equestrian Center from 6 - 9 August. Competition format The team and individual eventing competitions used the same scores. Eventing consisted of a dressage test, a cross-country test, and a jumping test. The jumping test had two rounds. After the first jumping round, the teams results were determined. Both jumping rounds counted towards the individual results. Only the top 25 horse and rider pairs (including ties for 25th) after the first jumping round (adding the three components) competed in the second jumping round. However, each nation was limited to a maximum of three pairs qualifying for the second (final) jumping round. Jonty Evans
Jonty Evans (born 4 October 1971) is an Irish eventing rider. Personal life Evans grew up near Trefriw, in the Conwy valley in North Wales. He is married with two children and lived near Cheltenham in the Cotswolds, where he had a yard. He now lives near Broadway in Worcestershire. Eventing career Evans has been competing internationally in eventing for more than twenty years. Although brought up in Wales, Evans represents Ireland, thanks to his grandfather having been born in Northern Ireland, allowing him to hold an Irish passport. Evans competed at the 2005 European Eventing Championships where he was placed 7th in team eventing and 40th in individual eventing competition. In 2015, he helped lead the Irish team to the nation's first-ever Irish FEI Eventing Nations' Cup victory in the Boekelo Nations' Cup. Clarke Johnstone
Clarke Johnstone (born 26 April 1987) is a New Zealand equestrian, competing in eventing. Johnstone was born in 1987 in Dunedin and grew up on a farm in Otago. From 2000 to 2004, he attended John McGlashan College in Dunedin. In 2008, he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago. After university, he moved to Matangi near Hamilton in the Waikato, but lived in England between May 2011 and 2013 lived in England in preparation for the London Olympics. Johnstone took up horse riding aged 12 when his sister talked him into it. At the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, he won the bronze medal with the eventing team alongside Andrew Nicholson, Mark Todd, and Caroline Powell. Sara Anneli Algotsson Ostholt (born 8 December 1974 in Rockneby, Sweden) is a Swedish equestrian. Sir Mark James Todd (born 1 March 1956) is a New Zealand horseman noted for his accomplishments in the discipline of eventing, voted Rider of the 20th century by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports. Philippa Rachel "Pippa" Funnell MBE (née Nolan, 7 October 1968) is an equestrian sportswoman who competes in eventing. In 2003, she became the first person to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing (consecutive wins at Rolex Kentucky, Badminton and Burghley). She also won Badminton in 2002 and 2005.
