Louise Droste-Roggemann
Louise Droste-Roggemann (20 October 1865 – 30 December 1945) was a German painter. Life Droste-Roggemann completed school in Bad Zwischenahn where she excelled in drawing. She lived with her parents and siblings in a house on Bahnhofstraße. The house was demolished many years ago and today there is an old people's home on the property where Drose-Roggemann's parents used to live. After finishing school, Droste-Roggemann decided to become an artist. She was able to finance her education and other trips from an inheritance. Around 1890, she left her parents' home and travelled to Weimar and Dresden. Both cities had art academies, whose teachers gave private painting and drawing lessons as an additional source of income. Since women were not yet admitted to art academies, private classes were the only available option for Droste-Roggemann. Bad Zwischenahn
Bad Zwischenahn (Low German: ''Twüschenahn'') is a town and a municipality in the low-lying Ammerland district, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is on Zwischenahner Meer, approximately 15 km northwest of Oldenburg and about 70 km south of the North Sea coast. History During the Nazi era, Bad Zwischenahn was one of the Nazi strongholds in Ammerland and the whole of Emsland. During World War II Bad Zwischenahn was home to the largest Luftwaffe airbase in northern Germany, the 'Adlerhorst' military airport in Rostrup (Bad Zwischenahn). From here, Luftwaffe pilots flew their attacks on the Netherlands and Great Britain from May 10, 1940. Since 1943, the airport was home of the Erprobungskommando 16 service-test unit, then Jagdgeschwader 400 each in their turn operating the Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet rocket fighter from the base. Peat (), also known as turf (), is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation or organic matter. It is unique to natural areas called peatlands, bogs, mires, moors, or muskegs.
